McConnell vows Gorsuch confirmation this week, says nuclear option 'in hands of Democrats'

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Sunday that Judge Neil Gorsuch will be confirmed this week to the Supreme Court but acknowledged Republicans still might not have enough support from Senate Democrats to avoid their attempts to slow or try to stop the nomination process with a filibuster.

“We’re going to get Judge Gorsuch confirmed this week,” McConnell, R-Ky., told “Fox News Sunday.”

Gorsuch, President Trump’s pick to fill the high court seat of conservative Associate Justice Antonin Scalia, will almost certainly have enough votes early this week in the GOP-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee but will struggle to get 60 votes for final confirmation by Friday. (Scalia died in February 2016.)

Republicans have 52 senators in the chamber and will need the support of eight Democrats to get Gorsuch confirmed in a straight floor vote.

Rs need to stop talking about the nuclear option. Just say Reid dumped the filibuster so they only need 51 votes.

Just because Weasel Harry “limited” his action doesn’t mean the Ds have any intention of letting the Rs filibuster. They only did what they needed in hopes the Rs would be suckers if they needed the filibuster next. But it was very clear Ds have no concern for the minority opinion except when they are the minority.

Some dems (i.e. Leahy) will vote for cloture, but not for Gorsuch. They will keep the filibuster in their pocket when they hope to get McCain on their side for the next pick.

I’m not a big fan of McConnell, but does anyone here think he quashed the Merrick Garland nomination last year just to let Circus Clown Schumer push him around this year?

He should force the Commucrats to do an actual physical filibuster and then after they’ve made fools of themselves for a few days....or weeks....go with the Reid option to totally destroy them. Tortutrd them, then deliver the coup de grace....

Schumer: Unlikely Gorsuch Will Reach 60 Votes
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/schumer-unlikely-gorsuch-will-reach-60-votes/ar-BBzcNVg?li=AA5a8k&ocid=spartanntp

Then we take two Democrats, that is bi-partisan support.

When I WikiPedia'd "Nuclear Option" it referred to "Constitutional Option" as well. So no more Nuclear Option for me; from now on I refer to "Constitutional Option".

It's like "homosexual" instead of "gay". Or "Pro-Abortion" instead of "Anti-Choice". If nothing else, it will force liberals to see the word Constitution often enough that they will learn how to spell it, if not actually read it.

Unless, of course, the writing is in cursive..... Then all bets are off

It would appear the Rats want the Pubs to use the nuclear option so that the Rats can later use it with impunity once they are in power again.

I’m not sure about McConnell, but there are 51 other Republicans that could screw the up.

“Who will blink first?”

McConnell by a landslide.

Yes, they should stop calling it the nuclear option and only refer to it as the Reid option.

What an easy job Mitch has. He can say things like this knowing full well that McCain and a few others will provide the necessary backstab. That way, ole marble mouth Mitch can put on his pouty face and claim he did all he could do.

This will fall on deaf ears but Gorsuch’s nomination is not going anywhere. McCain has never met a back he did not want to stab and a democrat who he did not want to collaborate with (only to get stabbed in the back himself by said democrat).

I predict a very bad week is coming our way.

>>It would appear the Rats want the Pubs to use the nuclear option so that the Rats can later use it with impunity once they are in power again.<<

It appears to me that the Democrats have no choice because their remaining base is so far left that any vote for Gorsuch will result in the offending Senator losing their base.

That said, McConnell shouldn’t stop at using the nuclear option for just Supreme Court appointments. He should just nuke the filibuster, period. Then we can get past this silly reconciliation process and start passing laws that matter again, i.e., laws that undo the Obama agenda, starting with undoing Obamacare.
