K.T. McFarland, who was tapped in November to serve as President Trump's deputy national security adviser, has been offered the job of U.S. ambassador to Singapore, CNN reported on Saturday.
McFarland is also in the running for a position at the State Department, according to the report, which said it was unclear if Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had made her a concrete offer.
McFarland was chosen to serve as the number two on the National Security Council when retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn was set to be President Trump’s top adviser on national security.
After Flynn resigned following reports that he misled Vice President Pence about his discussion of sanctions on Russia with the Russian ambassador to the U.S., McFarland’s future on the council was called into question.
Despite reports that she would leave her post in the wake of Flynn's departure, McFarland told The Hill in February that she would stay on. Trump eventually tapped Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster to replace Flynn.
The ambassador role was reportedly offered to McFarland “weeks ago,” but she has yet to accept. One source close to McFarland told CNN that she could also opt to remain at the National Security Council.
McFarland and a National Security Council spokesperson declined to comment to CNN for the report.
Singapore would be heaven after those 10-1 panels she has had to endure.

She is also the person who cost us Vice Admiral Harward as the replacement for Gen. Flynn at NSA. Apparently Flynn brought her on board at NSA before he was fired. Harward wanted to bring his own people in at NSA but was told he would have to keep her where she is as Deputy Director. To his credit, Adm. Harward refused the appointment.
If you ask me she is just another GOPe mole that Trump will ultimately have to fire. Putting her in Singapore is not far enough away for me. What about MARS?
Agree, Singapore is a plum, a reward for some ambassador. Haven’t been there in decades, but I understand that it is still a beautifully run little country—clean, prosperous, drug-free polite people.
We could learn something from them. Like adopting an automatic death sentence for drug dealers. Is that still true?
Amen! She has experience, good judgement and can see the world as it is, not how we wish it to be......State would be good or where she is.
