The U.S. military has requested that the White House grant it more freedom in its approach to fighting a terror group that has been wreaking havoc in North Africa in recent years, Military.com reported. Aggressions by the al-Shabab militant group in Somalia could erupt into an all-out war, but the head of U.S. Africa Command was looking for ways to avoid turning the country into a "free-fire zone," he said Friday.
Specifically, Marine Gen. Thomas Waldhauser was looking for "a little bit more flexibility" to "process targets in a more rapid fashion," he told reporters at the Pentagon. That "flexibility" could include anything from authorizing drone strikes to must stronger military force. Waldhauser was looking to "power-down the decision making" to neutralize al-Shababs power in the region.
Al-Shabab, which is affiliated with the al-Qaeda militant group, has been launching offensives in North Africa since around 2006 in opposition to the countrys Western backing. The terror group has wanted to impose a strict interpretation of Islamic law throughout the nation to make it become a literal Islamic state.
Some of the groups bloodiest attacks include suicide bombings in Uganda that killed 70 people and an assault on a college in Kenya that claimed 147 lives in 2015.

Gather up every Somali who moved to the USA over the last 20 years and send them back.
Having seen it first hand, perhaps they can explain to the folks in Somalia what civilization is.
Just what is the US interest in that area?
Let Somalia sink or swim on its own. No more Somalia wars or Somalia immigrants/”refugees” to degrade our culture. Let them go to Saudi Arabia!
drain Gen. Thomas Waldhause from the swamp please
They are all in Minneapolis......send a BIG truck, cause there are thousands of em!!
Not NO, but HELL NO! Stop channeling John McCain!!
I think it’s important to wait for Secretary Mattis’ official determination on whether or not the situation in Somalia “defames Islam”.
Bull Shit. How do these so called ‘experts’ get their heads impacted so far up their anuses?
Get all of the Somalis out of here to bott.
This crap has got to stop.
On 9 Dec 1992 as a young Sgt I landed in Mogadishu with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard a CH-46. Somalia was a shiitehole then and unfortunately will remain a shiitehole. My time there opened my eyes to the fact that some people have no regard for human life and there is nothing you can do to change that fact. Let them sort this crap out on their own. We can manage the spillover when needed.
The military is now suggesting involvement in Yemen and Somalia. We already have:
Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria...who knows what else in Africa. We were already in Somalia in the past.
A lot of them are from Chicago. :)
I don’t want to ‘deal’ with anyone in North Africa ... we should wish them well and get the hell out. These people ARE NOT children - if we stop ‘saving’ them from their own horrible choices maybe they’ll start making better choices.
How about no?
More involvement in Africa means more jobs for careerists. None of it has anything to do with our strategic interests.
Send the un in.
Not just no. But HELL NO.
We might as well just move every last Somali here and call it good.
Yeah, let’s go set up a “government” in a Muslim country where people’s first loyalty is to there tribe, and has been for thousands of years. Then we can train their military made up of said tribesmen for 20 years or so. And when that fails we can say they just need “more training”. Sound familiar?

Screw it. Let the Africans deal with Africa. Let the Euros deal with their hemisphere.
