North Korea leader's ultimate goal: 'Destruction of South Korea'

By Rebecca Kesten Published March 30, 2017

He’s said to be a chain-smoking, beer-drinking, maniacal tyrant who binges on Swiss cheese while his people starve. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., called him a “crazy fat kid.” President Trump scolded him for “acting very, very badly.” The Chinese were apparently asked to scrub the Internet of references to his nickname, “Kim Fatty the Third.”

In his most wide-reaching display of “crazy,” North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, 33, freely taunts the world by testing missiles, leading to speculation that a sixth nuclear test could be in the near future.

“The end game of the North Korean regime has always been the maintenance of the Kim family rule,” Chang says, shedding some light on the deeply isolated country’s objectives. “The Kim family rule rests on one legitimizing goal – and that is to rule over all of the Korean peninsula, the destruction of the South Korean state.”

The truth is in plain sight. N. Korea has never hid their ultimate intention. We are always busy second-guessing their motive, denying the obvious.

The ‘Korean War’ as such, never ended for them. And the South Koreans NEVER signed the peace

Neither Singman Rhee nor the ROK EVER accepted or signed the ‘peace’

Signing or not, it won't change N. Korean stance. They still want S. Korea. As long as Kim family rules, the destruction of S. Korea is their goal.

I’m real clear on that, I was just noting that the S Koreans never agreed to the treaty.

A peaceful reunification would be a joy to watch. It would be like buying the fixer-upper next door-the tear down. Empty the IRA’S/401K’s and HOPE there’s hope. Fun to watch but I don’t think the South really wants that. Japan has a million ethnic Koreans they don’t like. Banishment and expertise-exporting for fast development? Unlikely.

Israel & it’s Arab neighbors (1948), South & North Korea (1950), at war still, never ending and beginning just two years apart.

Very different context and causes, but both situations represented by one side’s continuing intransigence towards accepting peace.

Because South Korea shows the contrast and utter failure of Communism.

The Norks resent South Korea.

The North Korean military capability needs to be destroyed and quickly and totally. But no one wants to have the destruction that will occur in South Korea, and possibly a wider War.

Agreed. South Korea has a lot more to lose than the North. The only thing that the North has are its weapons and extortion and everyone knows it. Pretty horrible place for its people, too.

On the other hand, the South have a thriving economy and industry and their products sell worldwide.

A glaring contrast between a thriving economy and an economy that is dead. Freedom vs totalitarian rule/communism.

I usually call his father Kim Jung Mentally Ill. Or just crazy Kim.
Kim is a poplar Korean family name that means gold.
So, his name is not Kim; his name is Jung Un or Mr. Kim. Or just @$$h01e.

My wife would say nearly the exact same thing about me, except for the chain-smoking bit.

What will happen in April?

The Rodong Sinmun, the country's main newspaper, cited the 105th birthday of Kim Il-sung, which falls on April 15, and the 85th anniversary of the creation of the Korean People's Army on April 25.

“The meaningful April holidays should be marked as big political festive events that can be remembered in the national history,” the newspaper said.

What Xi's reaction is and how Trump takes it could determine the outcome. My expectation is that Xi will agree to do more than what China has done so far. Relatively speaking, it could be significantly more than what they used to do. But it may be still short of making any lasting impact: something which can cause a lot of pain for N. Korea for several months and up to a year, but not enough to change N. Korean behavior regarding nuclear weapons and ICBM's. It may be able to make N. Korea postpone some test, but I am not even sure of it. In return, Xi will ask significant concession on trade front.

In the end, what China would do is to keep things quiet and stable for about a year and after that, things will go back to where we are now. By that time, Trump is besieged by other problems, and the momentum for any action toward N. Korea peters out, China may hope.

Even if China succeeds in this gambit, such an inaction from U.S.'s part will compel Japan to act aggressively. If China dodges Trump's bullet, they may end up facing Japan's nuke.

Another possibility is that Trump declares that the red-line has been crossed, and China only gets to haggle over the price for acquiescing Trump's action.

If Xi balks or plays delay game, would Trump walk out or fold? That seems to be the question.
