Trump declares war on party rebels
BBC News ^ | March 30, 2017 | by Anthony Zurcher

Last week Donald Trump said he was going to "come after" Congressman Mark Meadows, the head of the House Freedom Caucus, if he didn't support the American Health Care Act. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer later said the president was joking.

No one is laughing now.

The House Freedom Caucus, the collection of libertarian-leaning conservatives who helped sink the Trump-backed American Health Care Act last week, appears to be as much of a political enemy for the president as the Democratic Party.

The fissures appearing beneath Mr Trump's feet as he tries to lead the Republican Party are not new, of course. Speaker of the House John Boehner, who was the top Republican officeholder during much of Barack Obama's presidency, constantly grappled with rebellious House members right up until he was forced from the speakership in September 2015.

Over the course of the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump voters time and time again said they were supporting their candidate because they wanted to disrupt the political order in Washington and get things done.

While the latter is still very much in doubt, the former is looking more and more like a mission accomplished.

They’re not conservatives.

They’re “conservatives.”

What about when they repealed Obamacare umpteen times over the past few years?

Now the “conservatives” are chicken, because their hero Obama isn’t there to veto it?

No, it is up to Ryan to allow it to come to a vote.

But the House Freedom Caucus is 100% responsible for electing Paul Ryan to negotiate on their behalf.

President Trump became "President" Trump because citizen voters rejected the watered down ideas of "establishment Republicans" like McConnell and Ryan and their failures to be effective checks on the power of the previous administration.

Those citizens will now and in the future hold President Trump responsible for any further watering down of their demands to repeal and replace "Obamacare"--a concept which was and is a Progressive Trojan Horse hiding the Progressive attempt to take over a significant portion of the U. S. economy and bypassing the Constitution's limits.

Now is the time to remind the President that, if he wants to create jobs, opportunities, and freedom for America--Make America Great Again--then he must open up that Progressive Trojan Horse, show it for what it is, explain it to the American people, and put the pressure on Ryan and McConnell so that the Legislative Branch is not allowed to overpower, appropriate, and dilute the wishes of "the People" who elected him to carry out their wishes!

President Reagan would have done no less!

Ryan absolutely would not be Speaker if they had not voted for him.

You know this.

Damn the ars hats that make up the Republican Party. Most are real shi! and want America to fail. Read the tea leaves and you will see what I mean. For instance they have had 7 or more years to build the repeal of the Obamacare. What have they done? Damn nothing.

Yet, those same Freedom Caucus members can stop something Ryan developed on their behalf, to try to get through Congress for Trump to eventually sign.

That’s idiotic.

While campaigning, Trump said he wanted to end Obamacare - and soon.

The HFC has never wanted a continuation of socialized medicine.

Which one stuck to their guns? The same ones now being criticized for not caving in.

Strange times, indeed.

It’s idiotic to suggest that Ryan developed this on behalf of the Freedom Caucus, he locked them out and developed this with the insurance companies.

They represent the views of about 35% of the population. Trump did not win by appealing only to 35% of the population.

It is amazing how many people here have become fans of socialized medicine simply because Trump says it is good.

Repeating it is a reminder that the Freedom Caucus could have blocked Ryan from becoming Speaker. They did not. Thus, they deserve every criticism they are getting. Ryan is doing the job they allowed him to continue to have.

As far as I can tell, Ryan-Obamacare 2.0 would have removed some of the Obamacare taxes and harsher enforcement provisions.

It would have left in place the mandate to buy insurance, the subsidies, the marketplaces, and what is probably most important to him and his cronies - the Fed.gov payments of $$ billions to insurance companies to participate in the exchanges.

This bill was CRAP and it would have cemented in place Obamacare forever.
