Webb served under Reagan and was an R until 2006, according to Wikipedia. I believe he endorsed Trump? I get that he didn’t want to be disruptive by attending, which I respect.
I am mostly against women serving alongside men in close quarters or in combat. The policy change was step 1 in the feminization of the military. I am not an interventionist at all, but military needs to be focused on their mission, not social engineering.
Webb's political dimorphism drives me nuts, especially his reported uncalled-for rudeness to President Bush in November 2006.
So your post here moved me to look up Webb on Wiki and it reports something important I didn't know:
In 2003, seven months before the Iraq war began, Webb wrote in the Washington Post:
I'm certain those are just the words President Trump wishes he had said publicly at the time.
At the time, any such words I heard I didn't believe -- I thought, mistakenly it turned out, Bush & company were much too smart to suck us into yet another Viet Nam.
Turns out Webb & Trump were right and I was wrong about it.
And as a Democrat, even more than West Virginia's Joe Manchin, Webb is a fish out of water.
So, just maybe our New President will find a useful role for him?
