The fight for control of Congress may be raging nationwide, but Massachusetts has been a calm outpost this election year.
Neither of the state's two Democratic U.S. senators, Elizabeth Warren and Edward Markey, is up for re-election and the state's all-Democratic House delegation seems unlikely to change.
Republicans are on the ballot in only four districts.

Best of luck to you (you’ll need it)
If it’s of any solace, as a resident of the Upper Cape, I am represented on Beacon Hill by a Republican representative, Republican senator and Republican governor.
Baby steps, my friend, baby steps...
Could be worse. California has election rules that allow for no Republicans on the ballot. Top two finishers in primary, regardless of party, face each other in the general. So no Republican was allowed to run for US Senate in 2016. And no, write-in are not allowed in the general election.
Yes, but, as in the majority of cases, no matter what political office in Massachusetts, they were RINOS, instead of being conservative Republicans. Throughout Massachusetts, conservatism has a much bigger political barrier than Republicanism, and Massachusetts Republicanism has a big enough political barrier, as is.
California’s Proposition 14 amended the California State Constitution relating to elections. It is officially known as the Top Two Primaries Act.
It was authored by Republican State Senator Abel Maldonado, who represented the 15th district. It was passed in the State Senate by a vote of 27 to 12 and in the State Assembly by a vote of 54 to 20.
The proposition was publicly backed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as part of a deal in which Senator Maldonado agreed to support the governor’s proposed 20092010 state budget, and it was opposed by both major political parties.
The Proposition was passed by the voters 54% to 46%. Three other states have top two primary elections: Louisiana, Nebraska and Washington.
The passage of Proposition 14 changed the way that elections are conducted for all statewide offices in California (including the Governor and other executive positions, members of the State Legislature, and members of the State Board of Equalization), as well as for United States Senators and members of the United States House of Representatives. Proposition 14 does not affect the election of President and Vice-President of the United States, local offices, or non-partisan offices such as judges and the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
And yes, there are conservative districts in Californa where Top Two means jo Democrat on the general election ballot.
In heavily Dem areas I’ve always wondered if a “can’t beat ‘em, so join ‘em” philosophy might work. There are people who just CAN’T vote for a Republican. But they might prefer a more moderate, or even conservative, Dem.
Were there very many districts with Democrats shut out of the general? When looking at results a few months ago, I didn’t see too many.
That might be a strategy in same states/districts but it would never work in Massachusetts because the Rat Party bigwigs in Boston would never let anyone but the filthiest Maoists imaginable on the ballot. So your plan would have to involve write-ins here.
Remember,it's only a few years since Ted Kennedy went to his eternal damnation but in that short time this state's Rat Party has become even *more* Maoist.
If he was alive today Teddy would be a "moderate" by Massachusetts standards.
Ping
Meh, in inner city Boston maybe
But applying that to the entire state would be loser talk.
Moderate dem is practically the same thing as “moderate nazi” nowadays.
No Republican has won a U.S. House race in MA since 1994. They had the 3rd with Peter Blute (when the district consisted of parts of Bristol, Norfolk, Middlesex & Worcester Counties) and the 6th with Peter Torkildsen (Essex & Middlesex).
The Western 1st last elected a Republican in 1990 (liberal Republican Silvio Conte, who died in early ‘91). The old 2nd (now merged into the 1st in 2012) based in Springfield hasn’t elected a Republican since 1946. The present 3rd (which was the 5th before 2012) last elected a Republican in 1972 (John Kerry was the defeated Democrat, btw).
The biggest impediment to change in MA isn’t the Democrats, it’s the Marxists in control of the MA GOP that don’t want anyone to the right of Stalin even running for office under their banner. Sack these frauds and get the party back in control under the center-right grassroots.
Unfortunately, the “Republicans” who have won the Governorship in the modern era have all been left-wingers scarcely distinguishable from far-left Democrats in other states. The last center-right Governor was Democrat Ed King (he later became a Republican, but the MA GOP failed to utilize him).
I have surrounded myself with a staff of young folks. My Campaign Director is 24. My Communications Director is 27. A few of the others are also in their 20s. Thumbs like linebackers (from all their electronic media abilities). There is hope! I myself am not that old (in my 40s) even after spending over 26 years in the military and almost three years in private industry. I just need support and word of mouth to break the cabal: scott4mass.nationbuilder.com
I am almost at $5000 and then I can file with the FEC. I am walking around Massachusetts and talking to folks and almost universally people are unhappy with their elected officials and want real change. Can you imagine the shockwaves if a “real” Republican like myself gets elected in MA? Check me out and help if you can. At the same time I am trying to support FreeRepublic to counter the misguided folks at DU.
Well, I wish you luck. You’re going to need it.
“Well, I wish you luck. Youre going to need it.”
I just don’t understand how a woman who was handed the seat just because of her name can have an advantage over a guy like me who has honorably served his country almost his entire adult life. Things just are not right.
Logic and politics are two things that rarely go together. Throw in the added dynamic of Massachusetts and its epic-level dysfunction and it makes it that much more insane.
Good luck. You will probably be left to carry the election on your own, without national committee funding. Going to be tough on you, but you can always come to this forum for support, suggestions, and solace.
More than luck, you need $$$$$$$$$ Change4, I can’t think of anyone who beat an incumbent on a shoestring budget.
Get yourself a campaign website as soon as you can.
