Trump requests — and receives — this infrastructure list from builders union

Labor unions representing construction workers have sent an infrastructure priority list to President Donald Trump at his request, as his White House searches for projects to greenlight that require little if any federal funding.

North America’s Building Trades Unions sent the White House the wish list of 26 projects, including more than $80 billion worth of energy transmission lines, water and wind projects, and pipelines across the country.

More than half of the projects on the list given to Trump aide Stephen Miller are privately financed. All but one are in the midst of permitting and could use the Trump administration’s help in the form of regulatory relief....

No wonder he almost floated out of that meeting.

He needs to limit this to things the government pays for.

Highways, bridges, dams, schools..., and if there’s a way to do it, get states and communities involved so the federal government doesn’t pick up the full tab.

Also, grunt work labor should not be union labor.

Grunt work labor should be a boon to folks at the bottom who need jobs and will be getting off welfare for a period of time.

He needs to end prevailing wage, as well.

There should be no greater infrastructure priority than to DEFEND OUR ENERGY/POWER GRID AGAINST ELECTROMAGNETIC PULSE (EMP) ATTACK(s) from Iran, NK, etc..!!!!

MILLIONS of Americans will DIE in short order if we don't act soon.

Love it! Whenever DJT engages with union people, they blow a gasket at the DNC.

Funny you mention this. I sent a specialist’s resume to them a month ago on this challenge.

Agreed, and this SHOULD NOT be a “gift to unions”.

The article states that only one project is asking for money. The rest of these just need some regulatory approval, which is practically free to the government.

Actually, the part that’s concerning is the permitting, which is a government function - remember, permitting is what held up Keystone XL. The Trump Administration could clear permitting roadblocks easily and let the privately funded projects proceed.

Ummmm... There is no way to defend against EMP without completely rebuilding everything with military grade shielding and even then the power grid will still go down for months.

A gift to the unions might result in 60+ republicans in the senate. We could get a lot done that way.

It’s worth doing. If not an EMP then a major solar flair would cause the same problem and we had one about 150 years ago. Another could happen at anytime.

Man, are you ever right!

Everyone’s been talking about how vulnerable we are and how devastating it would be, but it seems the utilities, regulatory agencies, and elected officials couldn’t care less.

Unless it’s being done in a clandestine way.

Yes, and they’d more than likely be just like the 197 Lefties we already have there.

Heck, we could have all Congressmen Republicans, and the GOPe would find a way to blow it.

Erm, you don’t understand - the only question is just how much you end up having to replace. The shielding would be for the control computers - the transformers and other gear would all be dead and require replacement with new production even if you used military grade shielding. Anything directly attached to transmission lines is gone in an EMP event - there is no economical way to shield those on a national scale.

And a lot of these projects are privately funded, all Trump needs to help with is easing the regulatory burdens.

A solar flare is probably more likely. There was one that hit the earth in the 1840s or early 1850s. It caused sparking on telegraph poles and I think I read that it injured some operators. Something like that hit the earth again and at best its zoot suits & Tommy Dorsey for all!
