Erdogan used the coup attempt last August as his Reichstag Fire. He even arrested HDP members serving in the Parliament (the third largest Party in the country).
There is about nothing left of a free media in Turkey, to raise public awareness before the referendum. If it is close, he will probably steal it. If he loses substantially, he might just dispense with the pretense of democracy (probably not - just routinely exceed his legal authority anyhow).
