In my early 20’s I remember thinking something similar, though I’d always thought that abortion was an abomination and should never be thought of as a backup plan for failed contraception. It seemed hypocritical, on the surface, to be against government regulation and for government regulation at the same time. I was also relatively apolitical then. It didn’t take me too long to realize how naive and gullible I was and to rectify my thinking.
Youth and inexperience are her stumbling blocks, here. She could use some mentoring but she’ll have to humble herself to accept it. That is hard for a kid to do when she’s trying to make it in the big world.
See, there is the chink in the whole absolutist approach to abortion in order to be a “true conservative” I was trying to illustrate.
I personally am ok with that exception because I cannot condemn an abortion while condoning the death of another person to prevent it.
I also know that the number of abortions that fall into this exception is very tiny. But in the end it is still abortion, but it isn’t the frivolous brand.
But would you consider it a waste of your time to try winning them over with logic, reason and patience?
“Do people become more pro-life as they get older?”
It wasn’t that many decades ago that little girls played with dolls. I mean baby dolls, not sloe-eyed brat dolls with slutty attitudes, but dolls that encouraged care and nurturing and brought out protective instincts in their little girl owners. If the family couldn’t afford a store bought doll, the doll was made of rags from cast off clothing, but it was much loved, nonetheless. Those little girls dreamed of becoming wives and mothers and, if they went to college, they often majored in Home Economics.
I was on UT campus the other day and walked by the Home Ecomonics building. The name is still there, etched in the stone, but that building is now used for fashion and other related degrees. No one cares about majoring in an antiquated degree relating to motherhood anymore.
As humans, we are born with a survival instinct and a protective instinct toward our young.
The feminist cult is viciously suppressing that in kids.
Beck is a madman. How could anyone not come to that conclusion? It’s like seven hours worth of crap he has done since 2013, at least, that took me from fan to disgusting dislike. I was double crossed by this maniac. I left Beck and Levin.
What was she doing with a bloke like Beck in the first place?
(Tomi is conservative on just about everything else. Ill give her a pass on this one because I was in the same boat when I was that age. I think it will change when she has children.)
I agree. Being a conservative or libertarian usually means having a specific position regarding a long list of topics. I agree with Tomi on everything else, and frankly did have her position regarding abortion when I was her age. Not only that, but on paper the pro-choice position IS much more consistent with the libertarian small government position. It’s only when one realizes that at a certain point the fetus becomes a baby who can feel and who can survive outside the womb does one realize that it’s not as simple as “get the government off my back”. People are NOT free to take other people’s lives and call that a freedom. We are all about the government staying out of our lives as long as we do not hurt the rights of others. And if the baby is considered a live person, the mother’s “choice”, at least at a certain point of the baby’s development, sure would take away the baby’s right to life. And that’s where a pure libertarian position would be akin to the right to murder another human being.
This is not obvious to most people, and therefore I do give Tomi the benefit of the doubt. I hope we don’t become like the liberals who would immediately throw someone out of the movement if they deviate even in the slightest to their orthodoxy over every single position they espouse. Tomi is a lioness, and I hope she gets closer to my position, but I’m sure not willing to act like a liberal would and want her out of the conservative movement!
“Once someone tells me that they support abortion, I never listen or care about anything that they say.”
Exactly!
Going further, I NEVER allow them to interact with my children either. Aside from the indoctrination, that is a primary reason why I had to home school.
And why I’ll never understand people who make excuses (usually economic) for sending their loved ones into the lion’s den.
Hey, man. I’m 43 and went to a Gaslight Anthem/Against Me! show last year.
I’m hip.
I’m with it.
/Does awful version of Macarena.
Anyway, obviously, you are right. I think the Alt-Right is interesting (and potentially horrifying in the wrong hands) movement.
It’s still not clear to me how big it really is.
It’s also not clear if these kids (yutes) actually stand for anything or if this some weird kind of performance art to freak out the squares.
Like, in all honesty, I’m not fully convinced Milo is actually queer. If he announced tomorrow that he’s marrying his long-time girlfriend and is opening a pet spa, I would say, “That checks out....”
I remember reading “The Republican Party Reptile” when I was 14 or so and thinking, This is the future! It was not.
That is a good point. I was really talking about Media personalities, celebrities, or authors.
If someone wanted to have a discussion about it with me, then I will try to win them over.
10 years ago I went on a couple of dates with this girl. Anyway, we didn’t date again, but kept in touch for another year or so. She was a liberal, and told me that she supports abortion. She revealed that she once had one. I told her that I think it is a horrible thing to do, and many deeply regret it afterwards. She actually started crying. I stopped the discussion.
You would think that a species that mastered interstellar travel would figure out how to craft a weapon, or at least a baseball helmet ...
Tmz says she is negotiating an exit from The Blaze because she can’t stand it there. Tmz is right that Beck and Tomi disagree on direction and on format. Meanwhile she was only suspended beca use the anti Trump people at The Blaze threatened to quit.
But there is more. TMZ says arguments between Tomi and people at The Blaze have been occuring for months. Dana Loesch was sick of the tension there and is also looking to leave. That according to Right Wing News.
In a New York Post report it seems Glenn Beck was to change the schedule anyways because he isn’t liking Dana or Tomi since they now defend Trump. Dana is not sure what to do so wants out. Beck was forcing everyone to be anti Trump.
Even the conservative never Trumpers and Neo-Cons got angry by Glenn Beck’s recent behavior that included appearing on Samantha Bees’ show and CBS News. So it has only angered staff. That abd Beck has been purging people not towing his opinions. Fired the entire news blog staff.
Glenn Beck then hired Never Trump persons. They have been doing approved stories.
His listener base had dwindled tremendously on Beck’s radio show and the readership of his site is 80% less than 2014.
No. And you are highly insulting if you think that I condone baby murder.
Well I dont really care about your feelings, I’m just informing you that there are people on the right that have actual exceptions for allowing abortions, and that it isnt as simple an issue as some people make it out to be.
