Silly YouTube, Don't You Know Making The Internet Nicer Is Impossible
Wired ^ | 22 March 2017 | Emma Grey Ellis

The #Youtubeisoverparty, it seems, has gone from my-folks-are-out-of-town beer bash to a months-long bacchanalia—and not the fun kind. This week, the streaming platform unwittingly extended the festivities with a new “family-friendly” filter that was meant to protect kids from seeing sexually-explicit or otherwise age-inappropriate stuff. Not a bad idea—except in addition to hiding Hitler cosplay, it also scrubbed G-rated LGBTQ content.

In its original response to the ensuing outcry, YouTube said the restricted mode only applied to videos addressing LGBTQ issues that also included mature subjects like sexuality, health, and politics.

But then pop duo/LGBTQ icons Tegan and Sarah came knocking, pointing out the only controversial part of their blocked music videos was their bad dancing. Prominent YouTubers like LGBTQ-activists Tyler Oakley and Gigi Gorgeous also called foul, saying even their most innocuous videos got caught up in the restricted mode’s hyperactive censors.

“G-rated LGBTQ content.”

That is impossible. Everyone has issues. The only that makes it unique for LGBTQs is the nature of the sexual activity.... which isn’t G-Rated in any sense.

Normalizing perversion is never “G-rated”.

Though didn’t I hear Disney introduced a new LGBTQ character into “Beauty and the Beast”?

“G-rated LGBTQ content.”

Isn't that an oxymoron?

Exactly.

I was on BART (SF Bay Area Rapid Transit) the other day, and I saw a peculiar poster at each end of a train car. It was an ad for an HIV treatment shot. The artwork showed a series of four bare (cartoon) buttocks, with the the buttcrack part pixeled out (as if they were photos).

If this artwork was a public health message for heterosexual activity involving the uniquely male and female body parts, do you think such explicit artwork would have been employed? Do you think they would have used pixelated cartoons of full frontal male and female loins?

It was disgusting to see.

yes, but the funny part is that their “safe mode” filters out videos that aren’t even explicit or about sex at all, say just a political video.

that was not their intent, so that makes it ironic

Political correctness is fascism in the name of manners.
And liberals readily use “niceness” and “politeness” to try to silence conservatives they’ve already denigrated as stupid, crazy, evil haters who aren’t fit for civilized society.
In short, “we’ve decided we’re love and you’re hate, how dare you utter that conservative view in our presence!” If that fails, then they revert to screaming and threats of violence, and the authoritarians in their midst ARE engaging in violence because the polite ones who agree with them can’t bring themselves to stop the beatings and assaults.

Don't worry, the Californiacation will almost all remain, only that nasty stuff that says bad things about the wrong people or the government will away.

Puppies, Kittens, hardcore Softporn, State approved comics, Industrial Strength Stupidity, and the most popular celebrity lifestyle trash, will all remain available to keep nice people happy.

I think you are missing what I am saying.
If a LGBT person posts a video on You Tube but it is not sexually explicit, say they are just talking about LGBT rights or some such, it gets filtered. I don’t think this was their intent.

Probably not, but I’m glad their propaganda is filtered.
Get back in the closet, perverts.

In short, censorship is only bad when it deletes Us as well as Them.
