No one’s talking about the “Persian Empire”. It is also a genuinely distinct ethnicity in terms of language, culture, and history ... still the largest in Iran. And until 1979 and Jimmy Carter the best friends we had in that region, barring only Israel. They’re of a different stock than the Arabs, speaking a language that has more relationship with German or Greek than it has with Arabic. People forget that or they never knew. A truly nationalist movement based on Persian identity will be anti-Mullah and anti-Islam at its heart. And one has been waiting dormant since 2009 when Obama cowardly, ignorantly, or as a closet supporter of militant Islam, refused to support a nascent revolt.

Persian (Farsi) is an Indo-European language that is not related to Arabic. They do use the Arabic alphabet in writing their language. It’s an interesting language. Their pronouns don’t have gender. He, she, it are all ‘e’ which makes the feminist argument that we have to purge English of pronouns showing gender kind of silly. Are Iranian women more free than English or American women?

Iran was progressing towards modernity until Carter turned his back on the Shah and encouraged the mullah-led opposition. I know that the Shah wasn’t perfect and had made enemies but he was trying to lead Iran into the 20th century. The same can be said for the king of Afghanistan from the same period. Women, at least in Kabul were dropping the chadri and becoming educated. The mullahs hated that.

Well, we don’t have to see Persian or Afghan women’s faces any more.
