US tells Turkey and EU to ‘tone down rhetoric’

US State Department Acting Spokesman Mark Toner

The United States State Department’s Acting Spokesperson Mark Toner called on European and Turkish government representatives to “tone down the rhetoric” in a press conference in Washington D.C. on Thursday.

Answering a journalist’s question on whether he “agrees with the behaviour of the president of Turkey (Recep Tayyip Erdogan) who threatens Europeans every day,” Toner said “I think what we have said about some of the back and forth we’ve seen over the past couple of weeks [is] that we want to see everyone get along and tone down the rhetoric.”

“Look Turkey is an ally obviously, a strong partner certainly with respect to ISIL and a friend. We support turkey’s aspirations to engage with Europe, I am not going to speak about what is an issue between Turkey and Europe and the EU rather, specifically. That’s for them to work out. As much as Turkey wants to pursue that integration with the Euro-Atlantic community on an economic level we encourage that,” added Toner, answering another journalist’s question on whether the Trump administration supported Turkey’s European Union membership.

Another journalist brought up the issue of the participation of a Kurdistan Regional Government representative in the Meeting of the Ministers of the Global Coalition on the Defeat of ISIS held at the State Department and asked whether there was a difference between the Obama and Trump administrations regarding Kurdish participation in the plans to defeat ISIS.

“I am not going to draw comparisons, we’ve been very clear in this administration and the previous administration that we have deep respect towards the role the Kurdish fighters have played in the fight against ISIS. We have great respect for the sacrifices and also great respect about what capable forces they are and the role that they have played so far,” said Toner.

Tone it down indeed. Nobody wants more bloodshed in the Middle East. Quite enough already.

But Erdogan is like a childish bully. He accepts no criticism, but will kill anyone who differs with him. Especially Kurds.

Obama had to change the name. Nobody else does.

I wondered if it was to distance ISIS Terrorists from the ISIS demigod of Egypt that Podesta was associate with?

ISIS is us.

ISIL is us.

We fight them to give an excuse to send troops to more than one hundred countries around the world and have a bloated defense and intelligence budget defending nothing and spying on us.

Any questions?

DC is still a swamp....

DOState Spokesman: “Look Turkey is an ally obviously, a strong partner certainly with respect to ISIL and a friend. We support turkey’s aspirations to engage with Europe...” This is obvious BS. Erdogan is an autocrat, an Islamist, and a Muslim Brother of longstanding. He is, in sum, an untrustworthy partner. The EU has begun to jettison the idea of a Turkish membership, and it is time that NATO did the same. As for the USA, who in the hell knows what the State Department will do next!

All you said is true. It is undeniable.

However, T-Rex is runnning the Department of State. He does know what the situation is. He is NOT relying on the old State Department model. That is clear.

He in one swoop cleaned out the mahogany row on the 7th floor of the State Department. And I am sure more is to come to eliminate the Deep State treachery.

Never underestimate Rex Tillerson.

Trust me, I know the 7th floor quite well and T-Rex has much more housecleaning ahead.

DC will always stay a swamp and the NSA will always spy on us because we are the easiest victims and the safest to spy on.

I wondered if she was still on the scene - appears not...We got rid of Psaki in the change of administration but Harf went to work at FOX cable. Can’t imagine what they see in her and I won’t watch if she’s on...

It was a good start. But you are correct. And I have NO SYMPATHY for any of them.
