Hill GOP moderates buck their leaders and Trump

Washington (CNN)The Republican Party's reputation is on the line, but a group of moderates -- who've historically stood behind their leadership on tough votes -- are prepared to defy not only House Speaker Paul Ryan but President Donald Trump on the GOP's first major legislative priority.

Just hours before the scheduled blockbuster vote Friday to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, newly-minted House Appropriations Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen's aide indicated the key committee chairman was leaning against the bill, a dire sign for House leaders.

Off the House floor, Rep. Mark Amodei, a Nevada Republican who announced his opposition to the bill Thursday, said he felt "calm" about his plan to vote against the bill. No phone call, leadership pep talk nor Trump strong-arming was going to get him to "yes." If his voters disagreed with him at the ballot box in 2018, so be it.

Let's get these RINOs on record with their vote. They have been the problem all along, and Ryan has been sympathetic to them.

Now the Freedom Caucus has driven need changes to the bill, un-perfect at best, and they want to bail.

We primary their asses in 2018.

The GOP is doing what it does best - snatching defeat from the jaws of certain victory.

The moderates want the bill. The conservatives are the ones rebelling.

Fake CNN news. Somebody needs to tell these three princesses that it’s not “da moderates” who are bringing this down. It’s the people who want ObamaCare completely gone.

Yep. The Empire Strikes Back- and the media love it. They love their RINOs.

This is all being distorted by CNN/AP/NYT to appear that republican "moderates" see obummercare as OK as is.

The reality is that the replacement plan isn't good enough to meet the expectations of Joe sixpack. It certainly doesn't mean that obummercare won't be replaced eventually. The rank and file just want something better, not just something for the sake of change.

Moderates are perfectly fine with keeping ACA. They know this is the last chance to repeal.

Ryan set this up. He should resign tonight.

REPEAL only! Government has no constitutional authority to provide free or ANY healthcare. If you disagree then you are certainly no conservative. Don’t you think our founders would have done this if it was the right thing to do? Nothing was wrong with the free market handling this until greed and power reared it’s ugly head; that is what must be addressed.

What is really happening here regardless of what faction is doing what, is the the GOP is proving that despite being in total control of government, it is incapable of acting.

What is also happening in this is that Ryan is proving that he cannot lead the house.

If the bill fails, Ryan should resign. He did this. Ryan is a RINO and a total disaster.

I want the bill to pass simply for the purpose of starting the process, because obviously whatever passes the house is not going to be what eventually arrives at Trump’s desk.

“REPEAL only!”

Not what Trump campaigned on. Get realistic.

The moderates are against the bill because it has become more conservative.

Heritage Action, etc. are wrong for opposing an imperfect bill.

Nay.
The bill was changed to bring aboard the conservatives and the moderates bailed.

It’s covered in the article. You should read it.

“REPEAL only! “

While that is the right thing to do, it is not political reality.

And it won’t happen.

Absolutely. Ryan did not demonstrate leadership. HE did not serve the president well. He should resign. Along with his other leaders at the top. Ryan is rather deaf.

CNN says it’s “moderates” voting “no” and not “extreme right wingers”? I’m shocked!

Exacly!

These publishing places never get the definitions right. They give moderates cover, and trash Conservatives.

Victory hasn't been certain from day one. They should have gone with a simple repeal by voting on the bill they sent to Obama last year. That got everyone's vote. Once they started down the road of replace then they left themselves open for just what happened.
