There are countless stories such as this. Trust me here. Even paraplegics can get a licenses in CA and elsewhere. A few years back, an individual who was 105 years old was licensed in CA. Some foreigners with 2nd grade educations, who’ve raised chickens in some remote rural area of Mehico all their lives, who don’t speak a word of English, are next found driving on LA freeways. This is a recipe for chaotic disaster no matter how ya chop it up.
If that were the case here, it would still take a person to walk into the path of a speeding vehicle to make that happen.
And if what you say is accurate, I’d bet a cup of coffee not only was the driver not paying attention, but the pedestrian who was killed as well.
When it comes to drivers on the road, you can not rely or assume that driver sees you. That can get you killed quickly and it happens all the time.
I didn't see any "hateful" comments here. Out of ignorance, I think you're confusing common sense, being aware and staying alive on the highway with, "hate".
The reasons why our Fwys, roads and highways are littered with shrines and flower memorials for the victims, are mostly due to the carelessness, recklessness and those simply not paying attention, which appears to be the case here.
Pedestrian has right of way. Shared responsibility might matter in a civil trial, not in a criminal trial. And not when you’re talking about very senior citizens. If she was driving distracted, this is on the driver. Period.

Again, even if you’re in the right, such as having the light and using a cross walk, you’ll be dead right if your not paying attention. Btw, I see people all the time crossing roads, without even looking at approaching traffic. That’s suicide in my opinion. Industrial strength stupidity.

I cannot stress enough, if you're perfectly legal, have the light in your favor, and or are in a crosswalk etc, you can still be killed instantly if you're not paying attention.

Sure, there are anomalies, but as I drive around here in the Bay Area (and I do a lot of driving) the bad actors are not the Mexicans, but the angry white women, with Blacks in second place. The Mexicans generally drive too slowly thinking that they won’t get stopped. As for the DMV, it was always the butt of all government jokes. but the last few times I’ve had to go there, it is almost seemed sane.
