If this isn’t passed Obamacare isn’t going anywhere. The votes don’t exists for a “clean” bill. Is that not patently obvious? if the votes existed then someone from the “Freedom Caucus” could be Speaker but they are not a majority of the party. Obamacare is going to continue to be funded. Government programs don’t “implode” they stop working but always continue to be funded. Obamacare is here to stay and the next step will be to make it better. This was the chance to START to kill it but as it gets more entrenched it’s going to be harder and harder to get anything meaningful done. The Freedom caucus is more philosophical and in principal they aren’t necessarily wrong but what they won’t is not going to happen in one bill. If you get 60 or 70 percent of what you want take it and don’t stop. Gay Marriage wasn’t done in a day, they chipped away at it. The destruction of the country happened little by little and they were patient. That’s why they (probably) won.

I know it is almost exclusively members of the Freedom Caucus, but apparently it has been a little fluid over the past 24 hours.

#1. Completely repeal Obamacare, ALL OF IT. #2. Open Health Insurance commerce across state lines and let the free market work. #3. if one is in this country illegally, one is not subject to government freebies, period.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

like it.

simple enough to put the entire bill on twitter.

everyone can read it and will know what’s in it before they vote on it

So why are you back? You took your marbles and went home! That’s what losers who do are unwilling to participate in a discussion do. You remind me if religious zealots who “absolutely sure that they are right” about something for which there is no objective evidence, and they therefore have “no time for further discussion.”

Are you new? Government programs don’t die. They’ll keep funding it (because of process’ like we are currently watching). That’s not to say it will work but in terms of the whole in the budget, Obamacare is here to stay. They should have taken this deal and kept pushing for more. To say all or nothing was never going to work. It’s been the law for 7 years and it “GIVES” things to people. Good luck getting rid of it now, in my opinion.

You’re one of the few that see that. Everyone else is circling the wagons to protect Trump.

“President Trump playing 3 D Chess and winning!!!”

Really? Trump was behind this bill 100% (his words). If this bill is defeated as it should be, combined with his obeisance to the US District Courts in matters where they have no jurisdiction, I would not be optimistic about the next 3-3/4 years.

I left because a rational case for free market capitalism could no longer be made on this site without being shouted down.

Trump pulled our all the stops to get this passed. If he didn’t want blamed, he should have backed off long before now.

“Why does everyone see this as the only chance in all of history to deal with health care?”

IMHO there can be no fix for gubmint population control via “heath care policy” because once some portion of the population gets benefits, those benefits are NEVER repealed. Make no mistake abut it, the “pre-existing condition” aspect of all of these plans is nothing more than medical welfare. Period.

Trump made it clear during the campaign his goal in the end is the same as Obama’s, Universal Single Payer Gubmint Healthcare, a la England and Canada. The electorate wants it, they will get it. Time to invest in off-shore medical care providers.

President Trump let Ryan lead with this, supported him on it, he knew the people wouldn’t support it, so Ryan is finished...

President Trump playing 3 D Chess and winning!!!

Paul Ryan don’t let the door hit on the way out the door!!!

...

I hope you’re right.

Politics is such a clutter.

It seems best to break this into pieces and pass them as clean bills with no add-ons. Pass them through the Senate with 51 votes, one at a time.

In a year, the Democrats will be screaming for replacement. Obamacare is going down, and going down hard. Trump will use that to bring the country together.

No, I don't think so. I think when Obamacare goes down, the solution peddled by the politicians and the smart people on tv will be more government control and involvement in healthcare. The man on the street will probably agree.

I'm not a fan of this bill, but we will probably get something worse in the future, and the GOP will end up looking stupid. That's because they are stupid. They have the worst political instincts.

The Republicans have not had good leadership since the 90s...and even then they went too far with an impeachment they could not hope to win.

This whole thing ends up with 4 parties...And then NOTHING will ever get done. We will look like the EU.

I think it would be a good idea if everyone on FR took a big step back from “Trump is an omnipresent God who is playing quadrillion-d chess. He let others bake the healthcare cake and then pushed congress to take a bite. This one falls on him.

In case you hadn't noticed, we moved on from obama and are no longer a dictatorship, and have returned to being a constitutional republic.

Trump did it the way our system is set up. The fact is we can get 51 votes in the senate but there's no way to get 60 so what can be done using reconciliation severely limits the options available.

And where in the world did you ever get the opinion we all think of Trump as some kind of God? A Godsend maybe. A breath of fresh air for sure but no one has elevated him to God-like status that's I've seen. Maybe you just see anyone rooting for him to succeed as a negative.

But isn’t that also trumps fault? Letting Ryan go off of the reservation? Is that the art of the deal? I love what Trump has done, but he’s just a man and is not immune to criticism.
