Enough, Mr. President – time to walk
American Thinker ^ | March 23, 2017 | Peggy Ryan

Posted on 03/23/2017 2:28:23 PM PDT by Kenny

I was reading an article on how Paul Ryan is schooling President Trump on politics.  My first reaction is always to defend the president, but as I read it, I realized it's true.  Paul Ryan's behind the wheel; President Trump's in the passenger seat.

Proof that Ryan's in the driver's seat is his health care bill.  Paul Ryan has managed to get the president on board for a bill that is essentially Hillarycare.  During the campaign, Trump promised to repeal Obamacare; Hillary wanted to keep it and fix the bad parts.  Well, hello!

How did we get here?  How did the most powerful man in the world, a genius, a man devoted to the American people, get conned into working on Hillary's plan and worse, promoting it as his own?

President Trump went to Washington an outsider – no knowledge of congressional process, no time to learn.  To compensate, he surrounded himself with "experienced politicians" to guide him through the legislative maze.  That was his first mistake.

His second mistake was to embrace said establishment, to accept them into his inner circle.  Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, and others in leadership are part of the GOP establishment (GOPe) that worked to defeat Donald Trump in the election.  These people reviled Trump, insulted him, spent millions to defeat him.  These are Republicans who risked a Hillary Clinton presidency to keep Trump out of the White House.

Turns out they needn't have worried.  President Trump appears to think he needs them more than they need him.  Sensing weakness, the establishment leverage their role in passing legislation to destroy the president's agenda from within.   And if the president questions their approach, they warn that he'll never see his precious tax reform if he doesn't let them butcher the Obamacare repeal first.

Just heard POTUS say this is just politics. Hope he's not talking about conservatives. I really respect Freedom Caucus for standing up for what they believe is right.

Dear Peggy,

Paul Ryan just crashed into a tree. Maybe he belongs in the passenger seat. Or walking would be my choice.

Sure, Peggy. If there's anything that Donald Trump is known for, it's being a weak-willed follower who lets stronger personalities (leaders) walk all over and manipulate him.

I don't know whose koolaid this silly girl is drinking, but it must be some potent stuff...

No Peggy, Trump didn't just promise to repeal Obama Care. He promised to take care of everybody. It will be a lot less expensive for everyone. No cuts to Medicaid. No one will lose coverage. Buy across state lines.

That doesn't sound like just repeal.

Before you get too mushy over the Freedom Caucus, bear in mind that all but one of them voted to keep Ryan as Speaker.

Had they done otherwise, we might not be having this kind of plan and vote.

I've said it before but why not one more time? Ryan said a couple of weeks ago that if this bill fails, the rest of Trump's agenda is DOA. Why? What does this have to do with, say, tax cuts? Well, it's simple. He was laying the groundwork to say this shows Trump has no mandate, no support, and is in crisis. Then he can block everything Trump wants to do with procedural BS. All he needed was a crap bill that could never pass. So he wrote one.

And here we are.

There is no “buy across state lines” in this bill. That’s supposedly in #3 but how will they get 60 votes then if they can’t now.

Lots of promises down the road but Freedom Caucus & Senate doesn’t think #3 2ill ever happen.

This is a situation where Trumps pragmatism and lack of constitutional conviction will allow a bad compromise if free market advocates don’t hold the line.

Paul Ryan has managed to get the president on board for a bill that is essentially Hillarycare.

There is too much rhetoric about why the bill is no good, without explanation. Is it that complex?

Why is the AHCA a good start? Some of the favorite features are no mandates, no penalties, repeal of taxes hidden in Obamacare, allowing the states to manage Medicaid, and, allowing states that opted for Medicaid expansion to keep it. These features are the exact opposite of what's in the Obamacare, which has failed miserably.

No one gets hurt with the AHCA, except maybe the insurance and prescription drug companies, who will have to retool their business models. Building their models around Obamacare didn't work.

The health insurance plan you were supposed to be able to keep is gone. Obamacare defined it out of existence. Yes, you were lied to!

Many doctors some people were supposed to keep are gone.

Competing insurance companies in over a third of the counties in this country are gone.

Some people's jobs are gone.

Many of the so-called health insurance exchanges are gone.

Totally agree. When the vote counts back home unlike the others the past 8 years, they become like cats. And you can’t herd cats.

Trump is showing he is a Constitutionalist and is letting the House deal with the Bill.

Ryan will fail and Trump will be laughing.

You are absolutely right.

Ryan purposely crafted a bill that would put
Trump in a bad light, or so he intended.

Pass it and half the country would be mad because it was not a clean repeal.

Not pass it and the other half of the country would be mad because obummer care is still in effect and Trump would be accused of doing nothing.

So everyone is mad as hell.

If Ryan had any character at all and was supportive of Trump rather than trying to knife him in the back, he would have brought out a bill that did away with obummer care in one way or another.

He has a rat face and the character of a rat.

Interesting Argument. But I’ve read a lot of posts by Owen. Pretty smart guy. He argues that Ryan is the best we have. Sure he’s a scummy RINO, but better than Boehner or McConnell or a host of other scummy RINO’s.

Besides, I believe Trump knows the old adage to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. I truly believe Ryan is a Useful Idiot being used by Trump to take a fall when RyanCare fails.

He’s not better than McConnell. He is McConnell only 130 years younger.

“This is a situation where Trumps pragmatism and lack of constitutional conviction will allow a bad compromise if free market advocates don’t hold the line.”

Then we have this outlook!

Trump is showing he is a Constitutionalist and is letting the House deal with the Bill.

Ryan will fail and Trump will be laughing.
