Illinois looks toward legal weed with bills in House and Senate

Illinois, one of the nation’s most populous states, could soon join the ranks of the limited few with recreational weed following the filing Wednesday of proposed pro-pot legislation in the state House and Senate. Democrats proposed identical bills in both chambers that would legalize the use, cultivation and distribution of marijuana and establish a framework for taxing and regulating the plant, potentially making the Land of Lincoln the next state to skirt the federal prohibition on pot. Senate Bill 316 and an amendment to House Bill 2353 would let adults 21 and over harvest weed and have up to 28 grams at a time in addition to establishing a framework for taxing and selling marijuana “in a manner similar to alcohol,” according to their authors, State Sen. Heather Steans and State Rep. Kelly Cassidy, Democrats from Chicago.

Yeah, I wonder which is a bigger real problem, weed or alcohol?

Old fashioned ignorance is worse than both combined.

need to stay vigilant on these bills
when Illinois wanted to legalize medical pot, they wanted the user to give up their guns and waive his\her 2nd amendment rights. It was taken out of the final bill.

This action is more evidence that Democrats have disordered minds. Weed does permanent damage to the brain, is a gateway drug, and shortens lives. Too many Illinois legislators are on drugs themselves, are they not?

They smell tax revenue. Having bled the state to point that it’s got one of the highest rates of population loss in the country, they need a way to get money out of those who are left, especially the underclass that provides little if anything in the way of property taxes. Weed will work just fine in that regard.

Big mistake. It is just for the money. Here, WA State, we have legalized pot. Stores nearly everywhere. They are doing it for the money.

Now, instead of just drunks on the road, there are those high on pot. It really isn't that safe and the politicians don't care as long as they get the tax money.

In addition, it used to be advertised that pot was an entry drug and it did damage to the brain.

I guess that doesn't matter when there is tax money and profits to be had.

Forty-some years ago, Illinois sold the state lottery on the idea that the state proceeds (tax) would finance the public school system forever. Funny, that did not work the way they planned. So maybe this time they can dedicate the proceeds to funding the school system, or just fund the pension deficits for all public employees. Just a thought.

Denver does not want any more Chicago people moving to Colorado. Thus, if Ill. Legalizes marihuana then maybe those loud obnoxious Chicago types will chose to stay there in Ill. Of course that also might work for Mass., Conn. NY, California, Pittsburg, Phil., ecetera. Of course there are lots of people from Georgia who are now in Colorado and they seem to be OK.

“Weed does permanent damage to the brain, is a gateway drug, and shortens lives.”

Ditto for alcohol. Also like alcohol, banning pot has the primary effect of enriching criminals.

Even a stopped click is right twice a day. Seems Illinois might finally get something right.

Cannabis should be legal to have & to grow. Period.
