Democrats blast FBI director after probe revelation

FBI Director James Comey’s testimony Monday that the bureau has been quietly investigating possible links between associates of President Donald Trump and Russian officials since the summer enraged Democrats who already blame him for rattling the 2016 campaign’s closing days.

For the first time, Comey confirmed that the FBI had opened a probe into the Trump campaign in July, the same month he called an unusual news conference to announce the agency had finished its investigation into whether Hillary Clinton mishandled classified information — and three months before he scrambled the White House race a second time by announcing that the Clinton probe was continuing just days before the election.

The revelation drew the ire of Clinton supporters who called out an apparent double standard and a breach of bureau norms that caused their nominee’s surprising defeat. …

...that caused their nominee’s surprising defeat.

The defeat was only a surprise to those who continued to use D+9% polling model despite Democrats losing over 900 state legislative seats since 2008.

The evidence was there that voters were not supporting Democrats at the rates that swept Obama into office, yet the MSM continued to report as if the electorate had not changed, despite two wave mid-term elections and big losses in the statehouses.

Not to mention their candidate couldn’t fill a Starbucks for a rally of any sort.

EXACTLY. The most important question, then, is what type of surveillance was done, and who authorized it.

Can't Comey just be fired? It seems obvious he is a liar and lackey. He failed miserably in his duties over and over again.

And just WHO was comeys boss in summer 2016 that would have ordered a “ quiet investigation of possible links between associates of President Donald Trump and Russian officials” ? Candidate Trump himself or the ‘democrat’ preezy at that time ?

Didn’t he say something along the lines of “They tried to damage our democracy by damaging Hillary and benefiting Trump?” Would it have “damaged our democracy” if they tried to hurt Trump and help Hillary?

If the FBI is going to do an investigation of Trump and his associates what “tools” would they use for this type of investigation? I would assume some forms of surveillance.

They would claim they were monitoring the Russians and "accidentally" scooped up stuff involving Trump people. Convenient?

But remember the latest wikileaks release showing that CIA has tools to make their spyware (or other mechanisms) appear to be Russian (or Korean or Iranian). For that reason especially, nobody has proved to me that the Russians hacked Hillary, or that any deep state claims about Trump and Russia are true. I believe that all advanced governments are spying on each other, but how do we really know who is doing what?

what *is* the plural of “pain in the ass”?

"pains in the ass"

"pain" is the noun. "in the ass" is a prepositional phrase.

No I disagree with your interpretation. He asked for permission to reveal the investigation and the Department of Justice, which would not be Sessions now but would be the deputy, probably did not feel comfortable to say no.

FBI directors serve for a 10 year term. Comey was confirmed by the Senate on July 29, 2013 and will be in office until July 23, 2023, unless he is impeached or resigns.

Thanks for that important info, Candor7. I would press for a resignation, but he will be reluctant to leave, as it could expose any conspirators.

You are correct. I did find out today that the deputy gave permission to reveal the investigation, and, of course, the deputy is a democrat. So, I think there had to be some partisan agenda into saying yes.

Can the president fire the head of the FBI?

They must be confirmed by the United States Senate and serve a term of office of five years, with a maximum of ten years, if reappointed, unless they resign or are fired by the President before their term ends. The current FBI Director is James B. Comey, who was appointed in 2013 by Barack Obama.

(per Google search)

If anyone recalls, the original intelligence assessments regarding Russian interference in the US election concluded that the Russian’s purpose was not to benefit one candidate over the other. Instead, the purpose was to disrupt US politics and thereby weaken us.

In that, with the help of the “useful idiot” Democrats, they are succeeding.

To understand why the Russians would adopt such efforts is not difficult. They are working from a quite weak position, with their only real strengths being their nuclear arms, and petroleum exports. Yes, they have a considerable conventional force too, but, being such a relatively weak economy, they are hard pressed to sustain it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_expenditures

I’ve read estimates that, by 2020, Russia could fall 3 or 4 notches down that list... This is at least partially because so much oil and natural gas is being found that Russia’s share of the market may declining. Yes, there are plans for increased sales to China, but, realistically, if oil stays at ~$50 / barrel, the Russians are in deep doo-doo. The Chinese will buy at prevailing prices...

Now, if you are the Russians in 2016 watching Trump march toward the nomination, if Trump wins, and pushes through his agenda, that economic scenario gets worse. If Hillary wins, she continues lighting fires all over the place, straining scarce military money. Does she care about results like 400,000 dead in Syria? Are you kidding?

So, the best bet for the Russians would be to act as a disruptor, weakening whoever wins the US Presidency, creating internal strife, and so on. In this they have moved brilliantly, easily coopting the Dems, now that Trump is in Office.

The question is, do we, and Trump, keep the Trump Presidency on track? If yes, no earthly force can defeat this country for at least the next several years.

Why wasn’t he demanded to answer why the DNC server was not turned over to the FBI for forensic investigation?
