Ending homelessness just got more complicated
Sacramento Bee ^

Posted on 03/20/2017 5:27:20 AM PDT by ISTHISONETAKEN

Mayor Darrell Steinberg was just getting off a plane Wednesday evening, capping an encouraging trip to Washington, D.C., to discuss his innovative plan to use federal dollars to reduce homelessness, when President Donald Trump’s so-called “skinny budget” landed with a big, fat thud.

So, the homeless person they show in the article has been homeless in Sacamento for *15 years* - and they were 'just about' to solve the homeless problem if it wasn't for that mean President Trump..

15 years this guy is homeless, the last 8 under Obama and now it is Trumps fault he has no place to live.

I am not sure that news gets any faker than this.

What aa joke - his 'innovative plan' that involves the federal government pouting millions more dollars into programs that haven't worked in 15 years (at least(.

Why do they need federal money to solve the homeless problem in California? According to what I hear, the liberals running the California state government are the ones that are the most caring (and conservatives are not). They should put their money where the mouth is, prioritize ‘solving the homeless problem in California’, and stop expecting everyone else in the country to fund their solution!

Like night follows day a Republican gets elected President and the media and the Leftist start yapping about the homeless. So funny, when they vanish from the public discourse when a Democrat is in the White House. Their play book is thread bare.

They’re unhappy that housing vouchers are going away. Maybe they’ll be happy to work with Trump to get school vouchers since they seem to be pro-voucher. /sarc

Probably not since the NEA has more money for Ds than the homeless and rental property owners.

I expect no less of the Socialist Left, but WE should be better versed than affirming their presumptions

On Tuesday, supervisors will weigh recommendations to redirect federal housing vouchers and other resources to help 1,755 homeless adults and youths, mostly over the next three years. It isn’t quite the plan Steinberg had been pushing for – he wanted hundreds more housing vouchers – but it’s a good compromise and the county should support it.

The innovative plan.......................

Still, a lot depends on federal funding. The 100 vouchers that would go to homeless youths are dependent on a U.S. Department of Education grant; Sacramento is a finalist, but Education is another agency that the Trump administration has targeted for evisceration.

Maybe this is the innovative part. DOE money..............

So let me see if I have this right. Even though Obola was running $1.3 trillion deficits and had a slush fund of $1 trillion there are still homeless. So far I think I have it. Now, when president Trump wants to rein in federal spending so we all don’t become homeless, it’s a crisis. That’s where I get lost.

“””Mayor Darrell Steinberg.... discuss his innovative plan to use federal dollars to reduce homelessness”””

Mayor Steinberg why don’t you use your own city money if your innovative plan is so fabulous. When you show your fabulous homelessness reductions, I am certain you can sell your fabulous plan to other cities and they will pay millions of dollars to your city just for the opportunity to use your plan.

Hawaii has a 6 month quarantine for dogs
Maybe they need one for bums arriving from the west coast with one-way tickets

I don’t think the ‘homeless’ even showed up in the news during the Obama Regime. Suddenly they get headlines?

We saw this coming. I would periodically ask about the homeless throughout the Obama years. Wondering why I only saw them during Republican Presidencies.

Why don’t they just pass a Law requiring All Public Employee’s to Adopt a Homeless Person as a condition of employment. Hell they could probably do it with the Stroke of a Pen with No Voting necessary.

Problem Solved.

***’just about’ to solve the homeless problem***

Like poverty and hunger, drugs, gangs, they were “’just about’ to solve the homeless problem” since the 1970s.

Yer, all are still here.

The root cause of “homelessness” is LIBERALISM.

For the moment we will ignore the mentally ill and consider others you may find living on the streets.

First you need to consider the small minority of “homeless” who were at one time called bums, hobos, or vagabonds. These men (mostly) dropped out of society and choose to live on the fringes of society. Most communities controlled the population of bums in their cities by having vagrancy laws and anti-begging laws.

Liberals saw that those laws were stricken from the books.

The big cities are now full of these men that have grown wild without any laws, rules or regulations to control them and liberals in fact protecting them. Aggressive panhandling, threats, physical violence, defecating in public, urinating where they stand... and nothing will be done.

Thee was a time when any city of any size would have an area often referred to as “skid row” where it was possible to get a room for twenty five cents a night.

Liberals looked at the accommodations and declared that they did not meet their standards and regulated them out of business.

The same is true for low cost homes or apartments. They were low cost because for most of us would not want to live in one, yet they did provide a roof, bathrooms, privacy, and a door that could be locked. All the things missing from living on the streets.

Liberals demanded that the “slum lords” fix up the home and or apartments while at the same time making it illegal to raise the rent. With this wise city planning you end up with vacant building, abandoned, no money coming in on the tax roll and people living on the streets.

There was a time a man (or woman) could find day work. Show up work all day and paid in cash. Only illegals can do this today without the government getting involved.

Liberals with all their rules and regulations have made it very difficult for anyone to get and hold a job, and almost impossible for someone who finds themselves on the streets.

Want to solve HOMELESSNESS?

Pick up and hospitalize the mentally ill. Those that can not take care of them selves and are a danger to themselves and other. It would be cheaper in the long run.

Bring back vagrancy laws and the anti-panhandling laws.

Arrest those that are violent, or showing anti-social behavior (such as using the out doors as there personal potty).

And instead of letting them sitting in jail, make them work each day.

Cut government handouts.

Relax some rules and regulations

Allow the invincible hand of Adam Smith make the necessary adjustment between those that want to work and those that need work done (but could not do so because the government demanded they be paid more then the work was worth).

Allow charities deal with families that need help.

Some of this would require overturning some court decisions but if there is a will there is a way.

The bottom line is there are too many people who profit off the misery of the homeless to ever want the problem solved.

That is the reason it has not been solved to date

Yup. That would solve it or at least help control it.

But Liberals will demand more money be thrown at it instead. It is their only solution.

Besides, these "homeless" will vote almost 100% for more of the same when the Liberals herd them to the polls. This is really a government subsidized Liberal vote mining campaign program.
