The Environmental Protection Agency awarded Michigan $100 million to help replace Flints badly eroded and damaged water infrastructure.
The funding was provided by the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act of 2016 and enables the beleaguered city to replace its decaying lead water pipes. Michigan is providing the required 20 percent match of $20 million.
The fix is part of the Trump administrations goal of updating the countrys water infrastructure, EPA administrator Scott Pruitt said Friday in a press statement.
The people of Flint and all Americans deserve a more responsive federal government, he said. EPA will especially focus on helping Michigan improve Flints water infrastructure as part of our larger goal of improving Americas water infrastructure.

Wasn’t the Flint debacle somehow blamed on the Republican governor?
It should be fixed, but don’t expect gratitude.
Good to see this, it was badly needed. There should be no place in America with the kink of water issues Flint has.
Perhaps people are beginning to understand that our President means what he says. Practical water projects instead of climate change, what a concept.
Yes, I don’t mind paying a few dollars to help out neighbors who genuinely don’t have good water, as opposed to wasting money on “climate change.” This is what, practically, the EPA should be all about.
Waste of federal money. Why should everyone be saddled with Michigan’s bad decisions? Is this a payback for voting for Trump?
I remember liberals saying if Trump really cared about the people he would be in Flint with water. When the media asked Trump about the water in Flint he asked “Where was the EPA?”
If you’re in Michigan, good luck in trying to find a backhoe. Contractors are going to be very busy.
That’s a lot of money for one municipality where the federal government really has no responsibility to take care of the problem. I try to avoid Flint at all costs. Last time I had the pleasure was when I had to stop to get some gas and I’m surprised my car survived the cratered streets. Replacing the water lines ought to have a side bonus of getting a lot of those streets fixed.
The Trump Admin allowed it to go through, but it was actually passed last year..not this year.
“Last May, former President Barack Obama pressed Congress for emergency funds for the city, which included the $100 million to repair Flint’s water system. In December, Congress passed water infrastructure legislation to provide the money, which Obama promptly signed.
The funds will allow Flint to accelerate and expand its work to replace lead service lines and make other critical infrastructure improvements.
EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt applauded the move Friday.”
Uhhhh.....President Trump won Michigan, in no small part because he promised to do what Obama wouldn't do. That would be fixing Flint's water, bringing manufacturing jobs back, and getting the deluge of invaders out of Michigan.
Obviously, media isn't talking about it. But you know what? I suspect the people of Michigan are quite pleased that Trump kept his campaign promises to them.
Meanwhile, here I sit in OH, with that snivelly fool Kasick in charge. All the good will from the RNC squandered, a lot of it because Kasick and Portman just can't get past their insane support of the NeverTrump Agenda.
Michael Moore will never forgive Trump for this outrage.
I hope he demanded to see the books on how they spend the money. You just know they are going to fritter the money away on social programs and lining the pockets of crony friends.
Yep!
better to send the army corps of engineers to fix the problem then $100m that’ll just get dealt out to every socialist scumbag in the area
That was my thought to. Why am I paying for this?
The people of Flint elected the people that allowed this to happen. This is a flint problem not an America problem. the fedgov should NOT be involved in this.
The state of MI should be. that is the highest level of Gov this local problem should have gone.
Next thing you know I’ll be paying for failed spillways in CA and their other water issues too.
I need better water also.
We’re so lucky here in Maine to have terrific water.
Moved from San Diego recently where the water was awful.
Waste of money. But a great investment to the 2020 election. At this point I really am that cynical
This just reminds me... we really heard nothing about this situation until a Republican was elected governor. Then, all of a sudden, it was the republicans fault that the water was tainted. And of course “that’s racist” followed.
