I used to live there, when they say legal limit they mean it.
Go past that and you get major infrastructure damage to a lot of very expensive property. Its basically a big bowl, only outlet is the Truckee River. It would be something out of sci fi to consider Tahoe going into a major overflow, only real way would be if several nukes were set off higher up and melted everything at once.
Have "AGW" above represent another theory, and all the same things are evidence of that theory instead.
Questions for those who know about this lake:
What keeps Lake Tahoe a fresh water lake? Is it the Truckee River outlet?
That’s enough to prevent salt buildup from all those incoming streams?
Just curious. TIA
Thanks! I've always wondered about that.
Ask the buffoons who blame AGW for everything: “If one year of excessive rains is due to AGW, was the preceding 5 years of drought caused by no AGW?”
The recent droughts were caused by AGW, now the heavy rains are caused by AGW. Isn’t non-falsifiability one of the hallmarks of junk science?
Has this winter turned Mono Lake into a fresh water drinking fountain?
Lake Mead is at record low level, too bad there are no tunnels to distribute water where its most abundant to where its needed. Besides Las Vegas, the river fed by Hoover Dam feeds many states below it.
It sounds like there will be enough water to fill all the down stream reservoirs from tahoe as well—with the last lake being pyramid lake.
It doesn’t look like there is an outlet for pyramid lake.
why isn’t that lake salty?
I've been a "fan" of Central Park for some time now.Any time I go to NYC I always pay a short visit...and usually a long one.Among the many things that have amazed me about it is the numerous rocky outcrops you see scattered around...like tiny hard granite mountains.
I saw part of a science documentary a year or two ago that discussed (mentioned, really) those very outcrops. It said that they are the result of Manhattan having once been buried under a glacier that was something like 1,000 feet thick. It went on to give details but I found that fact to be beyond fascinating.Particularly given that there's no sign of any glacier in,or near,NYC today.
Where,oh,where,did that glacier go???
Be patient, it'll be back.
“Heavenly Valley has already announced they will be open for 4th of July skiing.”
And they will probably be skiing at Mammoth Mountain in August, if not for the whole year!
One of the reasons is it is super deep. I think it's the deepest fresh water lake in the country. Crystal clear waters. I have fond memories of visiting often when my Dad would take the family there in the 1950s and 1960s. We would rent a cabin at the beach, and frolic in the clear waters. All those public access cabins used by low and middle income families were taken down so environmentalists could be happy, replaced by huge buildings away from the beach rented out to the rich.
Pyramid is not salty but is considered alkaline. Grows some massive trout. Pyramid is not really a reservoir. It is part of the Paiute Indian reservation.
The reservoirs such as Stampede and Prosser are filling nicely. They were all but empty after five years of drought.
Live near a town called Moraine. It literally means a glacial deposit. Time Mag scared a generation into beleiveing that rapid glaciation was about to occur and that the great glaciers would once again rule N America. It had special emphasis in our area.
will the big snow/rain make its way to lake meade so as to raise its level above drought levels?
I couldn’t find a similar plot for Lake Mead, but this may be a good guide for farther down the river.
