The New Gender Battle: Tampons v. Whiskey
American Spectator ^ | March 16, 2017 | Steven Greenhut

It’s getting increasingly difficult to mock the California Legislature given the fusillade of nearly unbelievable legislation that makes its way through the Capitol’s hallowed halls. In the old days, when California had enough legislative Republicans and moderate Democrats to temper things, zany bills would be introduced only to die in committee. These days, the crazy stuff almost always makes it to the governor’s desk.

With the introduction of a new tax bill last week, the Legislature has officially gone beyond parody. Seriously, I had to double check the quotations in the official press release to make sure someone wasn’t pulling my leg. The bill, A.B. 479, promotes gender equality by reducing taxes on tampons and diapers and then significantly raising them on one of the few escape mechanisms left for Californians — alcoholic beverages.

So, on balance, the tax on whiskey-soaked tampons will remain in equilibrium?

Kansas just avoided a significant sin tax increase, but only one vote in the state house.

No word yet on tampon price reductions.

“Man Tax’ increases must be significant in Kalifornia. It seems Testosterone has been completely outlawed and cannot be found anywhere in the state.

Aren’t Tampons + bottle of whiskey how you have a revolution in the absence of gun rights?

Wait... all alcoholic beverages?

1. Well, THAT’ll kill the demand for diapers for Californians.
2. Does the Assembly believe that drinking alcohol is strictly a man thing?
3. Tampons but not maxi-pads?

So women don’t drink alcohol? What about the California wine industry?

Seriously, what liberal news release or news item with a liberal focus has anyone seen or heard in the last 8 years that should reasonably have been published or publicized without a "satire" warning.

A good spot for the old saying, "The stupid, it burns!"

This is an excellent example of how the left uses emotion to manipulate and control women.

The “tampon tax” (which really is just the normal sales tax that applies to all non-food items) is insignificant in any woman’s budget. Let’s say that she uses 5 tampons per day for 6 days—that is 30 tampons. Now, let’s say that a box of 30 tampons costs $10 and the sales tax is 8%. So, this legislation would save women 80 cents per month. Additionally, this huge 80 cents per month savings doesn’t even apply to all women, because roughly half of women are pre- or post- menopausal. (Yes, I know that actual feminine product usage is far more complicated, but I simplified for the sake of illustration.)

On the other hand, alcoholic beverages are already taxed at above the sales tax level, and roughly 70% of adults, men and women, buy them.

The bottom line is that this is a tax increase bill, and the bit about tampons was thrown in there to get women’s support, because the authors of this legislation are counting on the fact that the majority of women do not think, but instead respond emotionally with warm fuzzies at the carefully crafted illusion that these politicians are doing something for women.

These politicians are manipulative slime of the most vile variety. I do not mean to denigrate slime, however, as slime species are among the most fascinating organisms that live upon our planet.

Revenue neutral. When tampons are in use, not much to do for entertainment other than drink.

“Aren’t Tampons + bottle of whiskey how you have a revolution in the absence of gun rights?”

Trivia: A tampon was originally a wooden plug for a gun barrel.

These people have microagressed. They gender binaried. They assumed only women can menstruate.

Womyn would clearly not be drinking wine if they hadn't been punished with babies and having had to marry men for husbands.

Especially if you soak your tampons in whiskey!
