Welfare reform has been a high priority for Republicans and conservatives for many years, and now that President Donald Trump is in the White House, the possibility of such reform is finally feasible.
In what was quite possibly the opening salvo on welfare leeches, Trump was ready to sign a bill passed by Congress that would allow states to perform drug tests on those applying for unemployment benefits, WITI reported.
Under President Barack Obama, states werent allowed to test applicants for drugs unless they were applying for a job that already had mandatory drug testing. However, theres a new sheriff in town and hes backed by a Republican-controlled Congress that, while far from perfect, is at least more likely to pass common-sense legislation like this than any legislative body under the control of people like former House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Well said!
I’m with you. It should be done. It’s just been a question of mine in general. How can someone take thc legally, yet get fired when it’s in their system (yet never was high at work). Alcohol clears the system overnight, so you could have a couple of drinks the evening before and pass a test the next day. But, this is not the case with thc.
I think he can handle both. This regulation is not that difficult to put together. He has others to do the legal maneuvering.
I think this is important for budget purposes, crime related issues, and it is job related. Hes doing these people a favor as well. Getting them to face their addictions will hopefully get them in the job market again. They will be better parents, friends, family members, and overall law abiding citizens.
Think you’ll pass drug tests just fine.
Omgosh. Scary and horrifying. Fentanyl - for goodness sakes and he was a pilot at Spirit Airlines! Their poor children.
Thanks.
I just started on that one. The pharmacist warned me of a possible dry cough....and, a possible 'fat' mouth.
I know I am in a minority. I will make my point & move on. :-)
There are many good people (especially in right to work states) who have been shown the door, often without compensation, for reasons having nothing to do with job performance. “It was a hard decision, but we had to make these cuts.” More often than not, they have mouths to feed.
Collecting unemployment is still a stigma for many. They swallow their pride, go to the unemployment office only to learn they have to prove they are not leeches of society looking for easy money. That is not the way to do it. Go after those who commit welfare fraud, the real criminals.
The assumption is everyone is trying to commit welfare fraud until they prove they are not. Guilty until proven innocent. It’s a peeve of mine & I know few will agree.
I’m currently on SSD following a nervous breakdown and it took me time to come to the realization that I needed help and ti was okay to get it. I went through the procedure and apparently it takes a year to have your case reviewed and testimony from a doctor. There are also checks and other constraints and it’s so heavily monitored that the reason we hear about these cases is because they are caught after a quiet investigation if something suspicious pops up.
I’m sure if they have a prescription, they will be exempt from losing benefits.
Why are so many in the US at this awful point?
Maybe they should test people who want their 401K’s.
Social Security is a welfare program. Not a trust fund. Not a lock box. You paid for other people. Other people are paying and will pay for you.

For those who paid into it and then receive benefits when they retire, this is not welfare.
It becomes welfare for those who DO NOT PAY into it.
UNEMPLOYMENT taxes are usually paid by the employer——NOT the employEE.
A percentage to the state—and a percentage to the Feds.
I have done bookkeeping for over 50 years & have filled out such forms for a very long time.
Nothing new here, most places even fast food now drug test. My Eldest is a manager and hates when those over him hire before the drug test come back. He will then have to fire them. He does not put up with drug users they are POOR workers. Best leave your cell in your pocket too or he confiscates it. You may use it on break or get it back after work. You will not use it on company time. Only exception is if the worker has a parent/child in the hospital or is an expectant father. And it best show as the hospital called.
It is a state issue if you work for the state or in that state. But if you are a FED government worker it is a Fed issue.
I’m all for random drug testing of all medical personnel including doctors too. I have to be drug tested every 3 months for my seizure meds. I use to get them every 6 months, now it’s every 3 months, thanks to DUMBO he wants them reduced 75%, well I don’t want those ER trips if I don’t take my meds on time. Cheaper to just leave them alone than to have ER trips for treatment for what can be controlled with the meds at the right level at home.
Has the leftist federal lawsuit been pre-emptively filed yet?
Just like hemlock.
Spurious argument. But assuming that it is legitimate, you'd still have to admit that pot IS THE TRIGGER.
