Lockheed Martin (LMT)said it has finished developing a 60 Kilowatt (kW) laser system and is now getting ready to hand it over to the U.S. Army. The aerospace and defense firm claimed in a press release Thursday that in testing earlier this month the laser beam system achieved a 58kW blast, a world record for a laser of this type.

I specifically asked for a phased plasma rifle in the 40Kw range, not 60.

Does it solve loud bass music in ghetto car syndrome?
To: Professional
You can solve that yourself with a home-made HERF gun.

What does this do to the entire concept of TacAir? Roger Ramjet does not like getting his wing.... or his pee pee... shot off with a Death Ray... and any ides of a bright chrome coating makes Stealth a tad difficult!
Of course, you boost it a bit more, launch it form the Cape, and we're talking about a low-end Золотой глаз

A lot depends on the laser’s cycle time.

It will take years to get formerly fielded, and power supply will add a lot of bulk to vehicle mounted versions (150 KW to power a 60KW laser at 40% conversion efficiency), but now we now that there is no technical showstopper.
These scalable combined fiber lasers could be quickly strapped onto planes and ships, or fixed facilities, if the power supply is already there, should a need arise. I am thinking about the Israeli border, with their growing rocket and drone threat.
This is a technology that could get pushed out quick, if the money and command emphasis was there - just make the components modular, to upgrade later.

I’m dealing with that situation right now. http://noiseoff.org/library.php
There are two interesting articles (articles section) that show this isn’t as benign as some of these idiots think: Heavy Bass Victims You Are Not Alone and Vibroacoustic Disease(VAD).

...any ides of a bright chrome coating makes Stealth a tad difficult! Bright and shiny helps a little, bit not as much as you might think.
Even tiny flaws expand rapidly at high energy flux.

How does Lockmark's laser compare to the Chinese
Silent Hunter? They both seem to be in the same wattage range.
