Thankfully no one was living in them or hundreds of people would have lost everything. This is why I stress the importance of renter’s insurance.

Exactly. I got an umbrella policy that includes Renter’s Insurance.

I’m hearing it was the first wooden apartment structure allowed in Raleigh

Do they have a cause yet? I’m thinking either a) homeless squatters or b) snowflakes opposed to the gentrification of Raleigh. Because Raleigh was much better when I lived there and you wouldn’t dare venture downtown unless you absolutely had to go to Krispy Kreme or to the Fallout Shelter on Rave night. And don’t forget about the Ghost of Blount Street, either.

The Burning of Atlanta:

Actually, the burning of the walls built to keep King Kong out.

The Ghost of Blount Street was just a sad old recluse of a lady living in a huge Second Empire tower house she’d inherited, she gradually was reduced to picking through garbage cans. The state evicted her via eminent domain and tore the house down, then she died.

Hmmmm ..?? I want to know .. did the whole block know the place was going to be torched and left the building ..??

Or, was this a new building for poor families; and of course, we can’t have that .. it has to be torched.

I was a freshman at NCSU in Raleigh when MLK was killed. (yes, I am that old.)

The lumber yard in downtown Raleigh was set ablaze.

From campus it looked like the whole town was burning and there was no news for hours.

Apparently the national building code was changed after the 2009 market collapse to allow cheaper construction. These buildings are all over the place.
