Limbaugh was talking about that event, so he contacted Rich Lowery, who claimed that Buckley forever regretted it. However, you can check; Buckley wrote an article in the National Review to apologize for what he said, but actually never got around to apologizing.
What is left out of the narrative, if anyone wants to watch the complete video, is that Buckley was furious with Vidal over a long debate where Vidal was siding with the demonstrators who were calling soldiers who were dying in the war as deserving it, etc. Vidal just stepped on his last nerve.
