Former presidential candidate Martin O’Malley is one of the first Democrats to begin the process of running for president in 2020, according to a Wednesday report from Politico.
The former governor of Maryland commissioned a poll in Iowa, the site of the first caucus in presidential elections, revealing a huge show of interest.
O’Malley fared well in the poll, earning 18 percent of voters. The poll included nine other potential candidates: Sens. Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, former Housing Sec. Julian Castro, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, state Sens. Kamala Harris of California and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, as well as Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz.
Thirty-two percent of respondents indicated they weren’t sure who they planned to support, indicating there is a lot of wiggle room within the next three years.
O’Malley earned a 47 percent favorable rating, the highest in the poll. Booker came in second, earning a 40 percent approval rating, and Cuomo came in third, earning 35 percent.
“Governor O’Malley spent a lot of time in Iowa during the campaign and made a very favorable impression on Iowa Democrats. We wanted to see if the conversations he started with Iowans resonated and are glad to learn that they did,” said O’Malley’s 2016 campaign manager Dave Hamrick.
Pundits speculated after the 2016 election who would run, but most of the likely candidates have been unwilling to officially come out and express their interest. Booker made an assertion last Sunday that he was not at all interested in running for office. The progressive senator reported he was more interested in opposing Republicans and President Donald Trump.
The poll included 1,062 Iowa registered Democrats, and took place from March 3 through March 6. The poll was conducted by the Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling, the margin of error was not published.

black
woman
Hispanic
Muslim or other religion, not Judeo Christian religion
Asian
homosexual
child of 1st generation immigrants
American Indian
an ethnic minority which is not considered white
Where would O’Malley be in such a ranking?
I heard someone say, not sure if he was joking, that the only place for a white man in the Democrat party, will be if he is a homosexual. Think about that.

Democrats could do much worse than to nominate him, after all, he does have a meaningful record in elective office to run on (of course it does include hin taxing the rain but that’s a feature in some circles), but worse they shall do.

O’Malley didn’t make enough people excited last election. I don’t see why it would be any different by 2020.
I recall him playing the guitar in his sleeveless shirts. That was all fine and good, but had very little connection with the state of the country.
Maybe he’ll challenge Trump to a few rowdy debates.

PPP is a Democratic company, no doubt. We do private polling for Democratic candidates and we were rooting hard for Obama. But that never had any impact on our polling results. …Oh no; none whatsoever, lol.
