Here’s a fact: In 2016, Earth reached its highest temperature on record, trouncing the record set just a year earlier in 2015, which beat the previous record set in 2014.

Looks to me like an unsupported assertion. On what data, assumptions, and methodology is the statement that Earth reached its highest temperature on record in 2016?

Please cite the satellite data used for this claim. Only satellites provide complete global information on temperatures.

I suspect that satellite data was ignored or "adjusted."

I’m pretty sure this is ground based data that has been “adjusted”.
