WASHINGTON (AP) Global warming shrank certain animals in the ancient past, and scientists worry it could happen again.
Warm-blooded animals got smaller at least twice in Earth's history when carbon dioxide levels soared and temperatures spiked as part of a natural warming, a new study says.

What is this "Global warming" the ap speaks of?
I thought it was now called "Climate change"

True scientists know that CO2 levels rise as a result of natural warming. Every genuine scientific study shows that through geologic history. CO2 doesn't cause the warming, the Sun most likely does, and CO2 levels rise after the fact.
"Global Warming" and "Climate Change" are mantras of idiots.

I thought shrinkage occurred when it got colder.

Good for the livestock industry. Meat prices increase per pound and smaller animals need less food and space. Plus too much meat is not good for humans. A win all around.

Three different species shrank noticeably about 54 million years ago when the planet suddenly heated up. That's the thing these idiots ignore, viz. yeah, the "globe" heated up ......... 54 million years ago! There was no "carbon footprint" and man's presence had nothing to do with it!
And if the globe is heating up today, man had nothing to do with it, man can't prevent it, and it's nothing more than fear mongering to suggest otherwise.

What they neglect to mention in this version of the story is that rabbits will actually get bigger.
Rabbits are not actually mammals since they lay eggs.

This is news? I've known this for decades. The evidence is all over the place. A whitetail buck in PA. dresses out at ~ 200 pounds, same species buck from NC dresses out ~150 pounds. Average size of a human female from N. China is much larger than the average sized female from S. Vietnam.
Why? Body heat, larger animals have more body volume than surface area. They don't get cold as easily. Look at moose, polar bears and elk.

Well, scientifically,it has been found in previous studies, due to global warming, that it is not the size of the mammal, but the motion of the ocean.

Large mammals adapt better to cold because the ratio of surface area to mass is lower, therefore heat is conserved. Smaller mammals shed heat more efficiently because their surface area to mass ratio is greater. Simple.
This is one big reason why a lot of megafauna like mammoths and saber toothed cats went away at the start of the Holocene, no?
