The New York Times is reporting that State Sen. Mark Green (R-Clarksville) is under consideration by President Trump to be named Secretary of the Army.
Senior admin official confirms Mark Green is being considered for secretary of the Army.

Several sources have independently confirmed this report to The Tennessee Star.
Green is considered a front runner in the race for the Republican nomination for Governor of Tennessee in 2018.
Should he not run, there will no longer be a strongly conservative candidate in the race to challenge Randy Boyd and potential candidate Rep. Diane Black (R-TN).
Isn’t the current one a fruit?
Current Acting Secretary Mark Speer is not. Former Secretary Eric Fanning is a radical homosexual activist and was not even a Veteran.
Note: Mark Green retired from the Army. He served as a special operations medical officer with the 160th SOAR, and was the M.D. that conducted the initial medical eval on Sadam Hussein after his capture. In addition to serving as State Senator, he is president of a network of emergency room physicians.
Overall, he is an excellent man.
I voted for Senator Green in our election when he ran for the Tennessee house several years ago and last year when he ran for the Tennessee State Senate.
served as a special operations flight surgeon in the United States Army, including tours of duty in the Afghanistan War and Iraq War. He was the special operations flight surgeon during Operation Red Dawn, the military operation that captured Saddam Hussein. Green sat with Hussein for the first 24 hours of his capture, and interrogated him for six hours.

Mark is also the prime sponsor for Constitutional Carry in Tennessee. As state senator, he is a reliable ally on constitutional and conservative issues. He is also a committed follower of Christ.
If he is appointed, it is fair to assume there will be significant policy changes (for the better) throughout the Army. However, speaking as a supporter of his campaign for governor, it will be a big sacrifice for Tennesseans who are hopeful we can finally elect a governor that will uphold his oath of office. Tennessee GOP leadership is overrun with Obama-Republicans.
A favor to Black to clear her path to the governorship?
A favor to Black to clear her path to the governorship?
Rumor has it Black is reconsidering her gubernatorial run in favor of controlling the federal purse strings as Chair of Ways and Means.
Leftist RINO Randy Boyd is Haslam’s anointed successor. RINO Speaker Beth Harwell also lusts after the position. Even if Black were to run (with all her millions), she is not a sure thing as, for once, there are likely to be a bunch of RINOs splitting the primary vote.
Mark Green is the only conservative currently running that has a real chance of winning. Both the Cruz and Trump TN campaign leadership and volunteers are supporting his campaign.
Interesting, thanks. So it sounds like he’d be a good guy to have in the military leadership?
This is such a great new conservative voice in TN—finally! Encourage anyone with an interest in TN to go read them daily
Sounds like a good choice, but if you think TN can’t spare him why not LTC Allen West?
Great guy. You would also want Mark as your doctor, your neighbor and your friend. He is grounded enough that D.C. and the Puzzle Palace should not throw him off course, however, the Obama infestation is pretty bad throughout the military. He would face substantial resistance.
Truth be told, he might be more effective as Governor of Tennessee. Frankly, I could see President Green sitting in the Oval Office some day.
Not opposed to Allen West. However, though I do not know him personally, Army scuttlebutt has it that his actions in theater may be an issue holding him back from any appointment.
If Trump likes him— He is OK!!
Hope he’ll be the next governor of Tennessee after two years of Army secretary...
Sounds nice, but the reality is the gubernatorial campaign is already underway and requires a significant investment of both time and money. If Mark is asked, he will have an either-or decision to make. It is not feasible to do both.
Scuttlebutt of what actions in theater?
West had an Article 15 resulting from ordering his men to beat an Iraqi and firing his own pistol near the Iraqis head. At the time, the Iraqis had a bounty on West and regularly attacked his troops.
Many say he was a hero - and based on accounts from those who served under him, he is an excellent leader - while others believe he crossed the line. In truth, the rules of engagement and politically correct micro-managing by the Obama Administration and the Bush neo-cons before that unnecessarily endangered the members of our military.
Whose to say if West had not done what he did, that more of his men would have been KIA/WIA. Regardless, his decision ended his military career and, in the end, he was sent home and his men stayed until the end of their tour.
The army today is not the army of our grandfathers, or even our fathers.
Years of Marxist presidents have seen severe assaults on the values and traditions which made it the greatest fighting force since the Spartans.
Let’s hope Mr Green may turn this round
