Why does aspirin work?
Niteowl77 waitressed in her younger days, and she has never been stingy with her tips. Well, almost never… she knows blatantly poor service when she sees it. (Nobody can assess a waiter/waitress like someone who has done that work for a while… former wait staff is a tough audience.)
Nonetheless, any server who is on the ball or engaging does okay at our table. They probably think we are nuts.

I had a roommate once, huge Democrat, who only tipped pocket change. His girlfriend always had to make up the difference. She swore he couldn’t do math so he never knew what to leave. I think he just didn’t care.

EXACTLY - Rush kinds of half-jokes about that, in comparing it to how they would treat our side if something like this were said. In this case, the media would go to some rural area of Idaho, find white people in a parking lot, and ask them (out of the blue) “Sir, why don’t you tip?”

I believe that all the dishwashers of American restaurants, spread the rumor that the waitresses, all Anglos donchaknow, would not be the pure socialist, and share their tips with the dishwasher.

I used to manage a Rest/Bar and once had to threaten to fire a black waiter who didn’t want to wait on black customers because they didn’t tip.
If you’re doing a garage sale in a Hispanic area, you’d better have extra people to watch the visitors. And outside lights on all night. Been there, seen that. Many just won’t do garage sales any more.
Isn’t it cultural appropriation for a Hispanic to eat Sushi? Shouldn’t the people of San Fran be up in arms about that?

That is, they know that THEY don’t do it voluntarily so, therefore, NOBODY does it voluntarily, which means, to protect them from the wrath of the starving, everyone must be FORCED to help them.

For 6-7 years my group of friends meet for lunch every Wednesday at the same restaurant & time. The meals are in the $7-9 range. I always leave a $5 tip as does one other gentleman. The others manage to squeak out $2 apiece....one I envision moths flying out of his wallet.
It’s business with me - every Wednesday the huge corner booth is always ready & clean with a “reserved” plaque clearly displayed on the table.
Tipping is an American cultural norm.
Immigrants from many other countries don’t seem to get it. And we no longer try to assimilate and teach them.
Some people not only do not tip, they also are the most demanding. A friend told me that demanding people rarely tip. They think you are a servant so why pay you for being a slave?
Tipping is not acceptable in many countries so they never learn to do it.
I figure it's their small way of trying to get even for "400 years of slavery", by having a white person serve them without being paid for it.
