Well yeah, “wiretap” is a colloquial term for “electronic surveillance”.
The term “wire fraud” is also used somewhat broadly too. It can mean a lot of things.
It is like using the word “dial” for telephone. No one dials anymore. Or the turning of words such “Kleenex,” “bandaid” and “jello” into generic words when they are actually brand names.
