Snip Obamacare's monopolistic strings, let the free market compete
March 13, 2017 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 03/13/2017 12:54:44 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

The only way I'd be happy with a non repeal of Obamacare is if the president and the secretary can snip the unconstitutional monopolistic strings that prohibit free enterprise from providing competing solutions. Someone suggested leaving Obamacare basically intact for those who choose to provide or subscribe to it, but allow new free market solutions to rise up and compete. That's not a bad idea to break the stalemate.

My understanding is the Obamacare law leaves many decisions for the president and the HHS secretary to make. During the rollout and throughout the remaining years of Obama's term, the president and the secretary made many, many changes and adjustments to the plan without requiring congressional approval. This is the precedent. So the current president and the current secretary should exercise that precedent and their constitutional and legal authority to make further adjustments to make healthcare more affordable and available to more people at less cost to the government and less cost to the people. The left shouldn't be allowed to win a constitutional argument against covering more people with more choices and less cost and less government intrusion, ie, more freedom with free markets. That's the American way.

For example, they should gently snip any unconstitutional prohibitions on existing or new insurance companies from starting NEW free market plans to compete with existing government mandated plans.

Nothing illegal or unconstitutional there.

Next, very carefully snip any mandate that says individuals must be covered by a government approved plan rather than a new free market plan of their choice. Likewise, carefully snip any mandate that prohibits employers from providing free markets plans of their choice to their employees. Snip the mandates on what must be covered by NEW free market plans. Let the buyers and sellers negotiate coverage plans. Snip any unconstitutional mandate the prohibits nationwide competition (commerce). Snip any government prohibition on associations forming groups to negotiate insurance plans. Snip any prohibition on health savings plans. Let the congress set up provisions for individual health savings plans. Let the congress make health care premiums tax deductible, if they wish, for individuals, entrepreneurs and small business.

Nothing illegal or unconstitutional there.

Let the decisions on what is covered and the price of coverage be freely negotiated between willing buyers and sellers.

Novel approach, eh? LOL. Think it'd pass constitutional muster? You betcha.

Sure, they'd fight like hell in court. But the president should fight back like hell. He'll have the people and the constitution on his side and he will win.

The only way I’d be happy with a non repeal of Obamacare is if

ALL Public Servants and Public Employee’s were REQUIRED to Purchase their own Obamacare Plans and NO TAXPAYER FUNDS were used for Health Insurance of Any Kind for ANYONE except members of the US Armed Forces.

Why in the Hell should our Public Employee’s be stuck in these High Priced, Inferior Plans paid for by the Taxpayers. They should be FREE to purchase their own Low Cost, High Quality Health Insurance from the Obamacare exchange, in fact they should be REQUIRED TO DO SO!!!

If this is Slimy Ryan’s 3 phase plan, it’ll never work. We’ll end up with more crap and the good stuff (if there is any) in phase 2 and 3 will never be voted in. That’s the way of the swamp.

Think you owe me a H/T on the free market proposal. But you are correct. This is about free market proposals which get government out of our healthcare. There will need to be tweaks to the system, but for the most part, plans that are good will be purchased, plans that aren’t need to be sunsetted, such as I suspect Obamacare being one.

This isn’t complicated. Use Obamacare as an option in the new plan and run it through reconciliation. Obamacare will then die a slow death.

It’s on the White House web site and Trump mentioned it at the listening session this morning. As Trump said “the healthcare bill is open for review and negotiation”.

The solution is a simple one: allow health insurers to sell health care plans across state lines on a regional basis. In short, the likes of Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield can sell similar health care insurance plans across multiple Western states, Kaiser Permanente does the same, Aetna does the same, etc.

Watch the cost of insurance take a nosedive because there is now a lot of real competition for health care insurance dollars.

Trump has been talking free market again and again and again this morning at the listening session.

That’s exactly one thing Trump has been proposing for the last year and a half. It’s part of the current proposal, check out post 3.

Do you really think Trump would let them not vote on phases 2 and 3 when it’s part of the overall plan listed on the WH web site??

I don’t.

ObamaCare.

Gut it like a fish. Defund it. Remove all the requirements, the mandates, the penalties for not having it. Remove all the illegal and unconstitutional aspects of it. Let it implode under the massive amount of fraud, lies and deceit the Rats threw at us and leave it be.

As a living testament to the brown-stained legacy of the Obama Regime. Impotent and useless. Just like all Rats.

If they don’t repeal it, they need to make darn sure there is NO WAY any Democrat president/Congress can resurrect the Beast or any of its provisions (taxes, mandates, etc.) that are SO onerous & objectionable.

That’s what makes sense.

If you have most everything else be market oriented, it will drive down the price of everything else.

Take anything in the super market, for example, eggs. A huge number of people buy eggs. A relatively small percent buy with food stamps those same eggs.

Where else can you get a dozen of anything, cleaned, packaged, shipped, shelved, priced, registered, and bagged for little more than a dollar?

That’s amazing DESPITE the food stamp portion.

Do that with health care. Make the vast majority of it market based, and then give the others “health stamps” to buy on the open market.

Do you think there will be any chance for Trump the moment they start calling this growing mountain of dung TrumpCare? Once he takes ownership, he’s a lame duck. They’ll own him. Repeal every word of Obamacare now or let it implode on its own!

Repeal or bust!

That'll work. Let Obamacare die under it's own weight of high cost and give Americans a Free Market choice to go to WITHOUT government mandates or interference.

There's no votes for phase #1.

So if there's no votes for phase #1, then why even have a 3-step plan?

Republicans are not obligated to replace, fix, or "repair" Obamacare.

No Republicans voted for Obamacare.

Republicans were shut-out of the input process completely.

It was passed through lies, deceit, and extraordinary parliamentary procedures in the Senate.

Just pass a complete repeal vote. If it fails, so be it - then the House should defund it, and Tom Price should kill all the regulations at his discretion.

Either that, or implement it entirely. Get rid of the waivers and exemptions for liberal groups, Congress, and federal workers.

Good points.

…very carefully snip any mandate that says individuals must be covered by a government approved plan rather than a new free market plan of their choice.

In that vein, snip also any governmental/judicial mandate that directs health care providers to provide services for which the mandate will not reimburse losses in full.

So long as providers are left to raise costs to cover such fluctuating losses there is no free market.

If the mandates are funded and the costs then transferred to taxpayers, it more properly becomes a political issue.
