Today I was having a friendly argument with a friend. He was upset that many people are getting excited that under the USA Trump will have NASA return us to the Moon and build a moonbase. His argument was that was too costly. That the money would be better served helping poor people, building hospitals and schools, and fixing the deteriorating American infrastructure. He just could not listen to reason.
Nasa budget is $14 Billion. The budget for HUD is many hundreds of times larger than that. In fact, Obama routinely gave away amounts approaching the NASA budget on mere whims with no Congressional oversight at all.
A case in point is the African $7 billion giveaway. How did it help American? How?
Below are links to various articles related to an event in which President Obama traveled to Africa and just GAVE $7 Billion dollars to South Africa. No strings attached. It was supposed to help them improve their electrical system and grid. Yet, there are no conditions with the money. There was no system to check that the money was spent as it was intended. There was no oversight. It was free and went to African warlords. How did it benefit Americans? How?

Just like with guaranteed health coverage for all, once an entitlement like that has been unleashed on the people, it’s almost impossible to take it away without paying a severe public relations price.
Trump could ‘fiddle’ with the payout plan, and stretch that out. Actually, I’m surprised Obama did this, since GWB already gave about $15. Billion to Africa to help fight AIDS.

Obama pledges $7 billion to upgrade power in Africa

U.S. President Barack Obama pledged $7 billion Sunday to help combat frequent power blackouts in sub-Saharan Africa.
Funds from the initiative, dubbed Power Africa, will be distributed over the next five years. Obama made the announcement during his trip to South Africa, the continent's biggest economy.
"Access to electricity is fundamental to opportunity in this age. It's the light that children study by, the energy that allows an idea to be transformed into a real business. It's the lifeline for families to meet their most basic needs, and it's the connection that's needed to plug Africa into the grid of the global economy," he said.
Two-thirds of the population of sub-Saharan Africa lacks access to electricity, including more than 85% of those living in rural areas, the White House said. "A light where currently there is darkness -- the energy to lift people out of poverty -- that's what opportunity looks like," Obama told students at Cape Town University.
"So this is America's vision: a partnership with Africa for growth, and the potential for every citizen, not just a few at the top."

I don’t think a president should be able to give money out. Not even for charities because everybody and their dog will create one. Kinda like everyone has a foundation now.
