ST. LOUIS (AP) A generation after St. Louis elected its first African-American mayor, many in the black community are convinced that unchecked egos cost them the chance to regain leadership of the racially divided city.
Lyda Krewson, 64, a white alderwoman, defeated black city Treasurer Tishaura Jones by fewer than 900 votes in Tuesday's all-important Democratic primary. St. Louis is heavily Democratic, and Krewson will be the overwhelming favorite in the April 4 general election.

Black candidate should run for the R’s
Black Dems will vote for a white Dem rather than a black Repub.
Good Lord! Why does everything have to be about race? It’s getting really old.
“Black Dems will vote for a white Dem rather than a black Repub.”
But not all.
All will vote for black Dem.
The hope for us is that blacks will stay home, as their way of protesting that the black Dem lost the primary.
Winner of the Republican primary: Andrew Jones for Mayor.
Thanks.
My guess is he will not win but will get more votes than a white R candidate would.
“The hope for us is that blacks will stay home, as their way of protesting that the black Dem lost the primary.”
I agree.
It has been old but to many human beings act like sheep when it comes to politics.
Probably a good bet, but in the Trump era? Who knows?
Democrat identity politics are costing them big time.
People are tired of black racism, maw-mawing and playing the race card.
America has had enough.
Hahahaha, Whitey wins a chocolate primary because of vote splitting.
I also thought that's how Detroit and New Orleans both ended up with white mayors recently, but it looks like both of them won an outright majority of the vote in overwhelmingly black cities.
Detroit has non-partisan elections. The White Mayor ran as write-in candidate (I didn’t know that, success as a write in, wow) and placed first in the primary (with 46%) and then beat a Black dude in the runoff by 10 points.
*itch Landrieu was initially elected Mayor of NOLA with a massive 66% in the jungle primary. The only significant Black candidate came in 2nd with just 14%. Another White rat was third with 9% and then a Republican with 5%. Followed by a bunch of also rans.
Landreiu was reelected with 64%. His main opponent, a Black Judge, got 33%.
