US attorney Bharara won't resign despite Trump demand: reports
The Hill ^

Posted on 03/11/2017 10:39:30 AM PST by Strac6

Preet Bharara, a U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, is refusing the Trump administration's demand to resign, according to multiple reports Saturday.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Friday asked 46 attorneys appointed by former President Obama to submit their resignations, including Bharara.

"HOLDOVER: Bharara is not submitting his resignation, according to several ppl briefed - WH not responding to what they'll do next," the New York Times' Maggie Haberman tweeted Saturday.

CNN's Jake Tapper also reported that Bharara was refusing to resign.

Brian Kolb, the New York State Assembly's Republican leader, tweeted his support of Bharara in the wake of the reports.

Purely a political move.

Bharara wants a higher political office, such as mayor of New York City, and is using this publicity stunt to get it in an anti-Trump city. US Attorney for the Southern District of New York (State) is often a political stepping stone. Rudy Giannini, etc. Chris Christie used the same office in Northern NJ to jump to Governor.

It's no big thing.... and it's also not like President Trump doesn't know how to say "You're Fired!"

If this were to happen on Clinton’s watch, I imagine the attorney would have a sudden accident in the gym, or something. Just to send a message.

I should try this if my boss tries to fire me.

Sorry, boss, I’m not leaving.

Might have been a bit of a political faux pas to fire Bharara. Among Asians, the Indian-Americans show the highest propensity to vote Republican.

The request for resignations is an opportunity for political appointees of the opposite party to act honorably. No honor from this scum. He will have to be fired. Easy do.

I’d prefer Trump keep him. He has prosecuted a lot of corrupt Dems in NY and is going after the Mayor for corruption.

I think this is a mistake. The guy has been taking down corruption of both sides of the aisle.

I have read good things about this US attorney. And, historically, there have been general orders for the US attorneys to resign at the beginning of a new administration and then the ones the new president & attorney general want to retain, are re-hired/appointed.

Fire him for defiance. Tell the press I changed my mind when he said I had to fire him. It was my intent to rehire him after ALL Obama’s appointees were told to resign. In the corporate world you do not defy the boss when he changes his mind. The MSM will make a big deal of it for 2 days and then they will chase another negative Trump headline and it will be forgotten.Get rid of him now or he will be trouble in the future.

HE is the ONLY ONE in the whole country worth keeping in as a US Attorney. Trump had already said he was keeping him months ago so I expect this to be another “dumb” story. I’m tired of the label of “fake news” as no one can call it what it is - “lying news.” Where did the “fake” come from? Why can’t definitions be given that actually fit? This guy has been all over Hillary’s lies - let him be!!!

Until this story is reported on by a Fox News legal analyst or a credible conservative website, I’m not buying.

Those commenting on “boot his butt out” haven’t been doing their homework and aren’t up to date. They can’t stop commenting even they don’t know all the facts - especially when it involves this guy. One among many who has done a good job..He needs to stay....

Trump should just pick his replacement - or appoint a recess replacement if the Democrats drag their feet confirming Trump’s pick - and have him escorted off the premises.

Preet Bharara is a good guy - goes after corruption really hard in both parties and he appears to be tightening nooses on both Cuomo and DeBlasio. I'm pretty sure Trump specifically told him weeks ago he would keep him on.

I suspect this may be more of a media driven narrative, creating a problem that isn't really there.

This is exactly why we dislike people in the public sector — they think that they are entitled. Worst of all, they forget who is paying their salary.

The solution... RE: Office Space.

You can keep coming but we just won’t pay you and we will move you to the basement next to the bathroom cleaning supplies.
