Ex-WTOP anchor remembers 1977 terrorist siege in DC (Muslims in March 1977)

WASHINGTON — Forty years ago this week, armed terrorists stormed three D.C. buildings and took nearly 150 people hostage.

To commemorate the anniversary of the three-day Hanafi siege, a photo exhibit is currently on display at the Wilson Building.

Many of those photos are from the Washington Star archive, and some were never published. WTOP put together a video (above) that includes these photos.

Although the siege has largely been forgotten, a former WTOP newsman remembers it well.

Jim Bohannon, now a syndicated radio talk show host, was anchoring on WTOP on March 9, 1977, when word came in of trouble at three buildings, including what is now the Wilson Building.

Mar 9, 1977 - The US president was Jimmy Carter (Democratic). In that special week.

Amazing how the mediots have kept decades old attacks by Muslim terrorists, basically out of the national news.

You can go back even further, to when the Muslim pirates of the Barbary Coast were capturing our ships and holding the Christian crews for ransom.

It did lead to good training for US Navy officers who put it to use in the later War of 1812.

Also remember that Stephen Decatur returned to the Mediterranean in 1815 to finish the job. Even the French took the bull by the horns and invaded Algeria in 1830.

There has been more publicity on the events, you posted than what the Muslims have done to America and the world with the exception of 9/11 for centuries.

The events you posted, show how dangerous the Muslims can be until they get taken out or slammed hard.

Thanks for your timeline.

...Jimmy Carter (Democratic).

There is nothing democratic about the Democrat party.
