The Department of Justice is deploying 50 judges to immigration detention facilities across the United States, according to two sources and a letter seen by Reuters and sent to judges on Thursday.

The department is also considering asking judges to sit from 6 am to 10 pm, split between two rotating shifts, to adjudicate more cases, the sources said. A notice about shift times was not included in the letter.

The Justice Department did not respond to a request for comment.

On Jan 25 President Donald Trump issued an executive order aimed at speeding up deportations and holding migrants in detention until their cases can be heard.

Trump campaigned on a pledge to get tougher on the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants, playing on fears of violent crime while promising to build a wall on the border with Mexico and to stop potential terrorists from entering the country....

The President has a long history of problem-solving. This a brilliant move. I’ve never heard of such a thing before. These must be administrative law judges. I am sure no federal court jurisdiction for Habeas Corpus exists here.

They said it couldn’t be done. They were wrong.

Great move! Though they could probably use 500-5000 more judges.

Hopefully no activist judges will be included!

This a brilliant move. I’ve never heard of such a thing before.

In 1997, the city of Philadelphia established a makeshift courtroom at Veterans Stadium to expedite dealing with out-of-control Iggles fans. Kinda the same thing.

Hey You!

You are a judge now.

Here is your rubber stamp (which says “Deport Immediately”), and some travel orders.

You eval will be based on how many you deport, compared to your peers.

I would say it’s necessary because iirc, Mexico has 50 offices inside the US to support their agenda.

In an age when the law is whatever a judge claims it to be despite what is written in the law...I’m taking a wait and see.

“Circuit” judges used to be judges who travelled around territories hearing cases long before they were states. I am not sure if they still travel, but I believe Henry the VIII (or one of those Henrys) started this practice. I will bet that the judges assigned to these duties will not be happy travelers, but it will be their jurisdiction.

That’s a long held practice in Filthadelphia. I remember the Rolling Stones, JFK, 1982! The judges and cops likely bought a second beach house after that fiasco!
