His point was that nobody alive today in America has owned a slave or been one. (But if he’s wrong about that, then that person should pay or get reparations.)

My mistake. It was all in past tense, “everyone in America who ever owned....;” I thought he was speaking about the far past, not present day.
Of course he si right. But the whole Obama leftist movements is premised on the idea that white people are responsible NOW for history. Its ludicrous, racist, retrograde,draconian, unAmerican thinking.But the MSM and Hollywood pushes it big time.
History is history. Unilaterally making someone responsible for 150 year old history, (i.e. the past) is the mark of every fascist movement in the modern era. Its actually what separates fascism from communism, according to experts in the field of fascist history, such as Dr. Gilbert Allardyce , who I was fortunate to have studied with.
