US Stryker Deployment to Manbij, Syria Appears to Have Been a Blocking Move

Those big armored fighting vehicles are not inconspicuous—and that appears to have been the point.

Last weekend, US Stryker armored fighting vehicles appeared seemingly out of nowhere in Syria and descended onto the Kurdish-held town of Manbij. Their arrival was anything but inconspicuous, as the convoy of multiple Strykers, in various configurations, along with tricked-out Humvees rolled across the Euphrates river in broad daylight, with giant American flags whipping in the air above them. After we reported on the story, the vehicles appeared to have made it to Manbij, and proceeded to move all around the vicinity of the city and its outlying villages, making their presence known. For US special operations teams, who have kept an incredibly low profile in the war-torn country for a couple years now, the show of force was something totally new, and it was clearly a signal to America's enemies and friends alike.

“For US special operations teams, who have kept an incredibly low profile in the war-torn country for a couple years now...”

Well - Trump did send in bigger trucks anyway. With flags.

And you thought he’d defeat ISIS with hot rhetoric, I suppose.

He is protecting the Kurds from the Turks without having to do any shooting. Both are allies of ours, Turkey by treaty-NATO and the Kurds because they appear to be the only sane Moslems in the ME and are fighting the ISIS people and the Iranians, too. They are also pretty good at it.

He is therewith telling Erdogan to leave the Kurds alone. He can’t threaten Erdogan because Turkiye is a formal ally but it would not do to let Erdogan overrun our real ally in the area. This seems a quintessential Trump move.

Why would you waste your energy. Many here think that kurds are animals to die fighting ISIS while we smoke cigars and then #### them over by letting Turkey kill them all when ISIS is defeated.

What the hell, Bush I did it.

Sickens me.

They can’t fly Trump flags on the vehicles, but maybe someone can raise it above a defeated ISIS site. (secretly of course)

I know. We need to keep faith with them. Some here fear more about securing the reign of Assad and his 49-year naval base/lease with Putin than they do with defeating ISIS and securing the peace and security of the region.

It's an odd twist of events when American conservatives end up worrying more about Assad, who facilitated al Qaeda and its murderous terrorist attacks on US forces in Iraq, than about the Kurds and our allies who are fighting ISIS.

Or like we did with the South Vietnamese when Congress turned their backs on them. It IS very complicated over there. There was another interesting link on the Special Forces guys with their ATV’s and missile systems - from May 2016. It is hard for me to follow all of it, but it comes down to “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”. For now - but that can/will bite us in the butt.

Lest we forget, obama had a lot to do with this current strife with his “Arab Spring” promotions.

When I saw this on the screen I had a major LOL moment. Trump had a choice, threaten Erdogan or abandon the Kurds to the Turkish Army. He took the third choice. and put the ball squarely in Erdogan's lap. Will the wannabe Kaleef risk attacking the Americans in Manbij? He might if Sultan Hussein had got in the way. Trump would give him terminal pause. He is NOT going there.
Erdogan has been Trumped.

The article states these are from the 75th Ranger Regiment, which is part of Special Operations Command. I would not call it an escalation, in that the same command owns the advisors and air assets that have so far been used.

Essentially, they just brought in different equipment controlled by that already present command.

Personally, I’d like to see the Kurt’s given their own country.

I see from the link at the bottom of the article these are Double V-Hull Strykers It looks like all new build will be Double V-Hull. These are far more resistant to IED type attacks.

As of this month, 673 Stryker DVHs have been produced, of which over 450 have been fielded for Afghanistan. With more than a year and a half of combat experience there is enough data to declare the Stryker DVH a resounding success.

"While deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom, the Stryker DVH has seen enemy fire and come through with outstanding survivability results. The majority of Soldiers involved in those instances have walked away from the vehicles, or returned to duty within a short period of time. Not only has the number of injuries and casualties dropped dramatically, but the severity of those instances has substantially decreased," said Lt. Col. Eric Frutchey, the Product Manager for the Stryker Fleet.

"double V-hulled" Strykers

Two great posts guys. Thanks.

And you are right about the odd conservative viewpoint hombre. I know he is better than ISIS being in charge, but he killed a bunch of Americans in Iraq. dont much recall Russia holding them back.

And though I REALLY hate Bush, obama pulling the troops and his “arab spring” bullsh%% was a disaster.
