Just going from memory - but I think the part of Trump’s tax return that was leaked in the past was from many years ago, and was a return Trump submitted to one of the states as part of his casino operations (maybe to Nevada or New Jersey) and some “state level” gambling commission type-person leaked it. Not leaked by the IRS.
Well there ya go - PROOF that the Left are okay with the IRS attacking political enemies.
The NYT doing this is probably not illegal. But, what it does prove beyond a shadow of a doubt is that the NYT is a biased, corrupt and unethical organization that puts its support of Democrats and Democrat ideology above US law. It also shows the NYT uses the rights given it by the 1st Amendment, not to hold the government accountable, but to prosecute the party and politicians it disagrees with.

The left already does this. Whenever you hear of private information mysteriously getting in the hands of the media, this is what happens. Some leftist operative, working in a tax office, or a public records office, uses his/her legitimate work access to access illegitimately the records of a Republican. Then he/she gives it or sells it to a leftist journalist who gets it published. No one is ever told that the information was obtained illegally. No one is ever prosecuted.
