Comey Asks Justice Dept. to Reject Trump’s Wiretapping Claim
New York Times ^ | March 5th 2017 | MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT and MICHAEL D. SHEAR

WASHINGTON — The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, asked the Justice Department this weekend to publicly reject President Trump’s assertion that President Barack Obama ordered the tapping of Mr. Trump’s phones, senior American officials said on Sunday. Mr. Comey has argued that the highly charged claim is false and must be corrected, they said, but the department has not released any such statement.

Mr. Comey made the request on Saturday after Mr. Trump leveled his allegation on Twitter. Mr. Comey has been working to get the Justice Department to knock down Mr. Trump’s claim because there is no evidence to support it and it insinuates that the F.B.I. broke the law, the officials said.

A spokesman for the F.B.I. declined to comment. Sarah Isgur Flores, the spokeswoman for the Justice Department, also declined to comment.

Getting narrowed down? This is the best novel I have EVER read...

Wait, it is NOT a political thriller? It’s a cliff hanger? No ending? Dang it!

Trump ought to order him to the WH and find out the complete truth. Then have Comey sign a written statement about his what he knows.

7 liberal articles citing wire taps as evidence Trump colluded with Russia (despite there not being evidence of collusion) by outlets who now claim there is no proof these same wiretaps exist.
NY Times 1: http://archive.is/Pggol HeatStreet: http://archive.is/JwNBs (to be fair, this one isn’t really a liberal source) McClatchy: http://archive.is/ABjsI NY Times 2: http://archive.is/b8kXi NY Times 3: http://archive.is/JtCpw The Guardian: http://archive.is/pJSrs NY Times 4: http://archive.is/edZmY

FISA court stats... spread it around. 33k requests approved, 12 denied in their entire history.
So, really, it actually is more strange that they rejected it at all; going by their history.

Comey knows there is proof. Perhaps he’s trying to appear the “honest broker” by demanding DOJ show that there is no proof, only to be “surprised.” “Sha-zam, I thought the DOJ was clean. Well, this warrants and investigation into DOJ.”

Whatever the reason, either Trump is stupid and is keeping a traitor very close, or Trump kept Comey on for a reason.

I don’t know that reason yet and Team Trump so far won’t tell me.

Poor guy...not easy to suck up to two opposed people at the same time.
Comey is obviously for Comey and trying his best to please both sides....sad.

What I’m saying is how can they say that someone didn’t interfere in a sitting case. Hello? Obama in the Hillary email scandal? Loretta Lynch?

had some surgical procedure

Hemorrhoid surgery for sure and possibly a lobotomy. The man has been a pain in the ass for a long time. His ego has been monstrous.

On his new network bankrupting him...... He had to dump Mark Styen cause he could not afford him (see lawsuit info), in addition he has spent an enormous sum advertising this crazy boondoggle, CRTV. It just made him a bald Beck. They are brothers from different mothers. Both loony morons, but at least Beck has a better voice than Fran Dresher.

(Yeah I don’t like Levin one bit)

The Fake stream media has pounded the story of Trump misdeeds, as supported by intelligence agencies and wire taps. The story is re told over many months

Everyone is running from the story, for good reasons.

The FBI and DNI deny they tapped Trump Tower.
Will they find a FISA court order.
Were the FBI and DNI insubordinate and refuse to follow the FISA court?

Did 0bama run his own dirty tricks gang.

Lot’s of people will get thrown under the bus

Do we really know anything about what Comey thinks on this?

All we have (so far as I’ve seen) is NY Times b.s. anonymous sources.

Even IF Comey is pushing behind the scenes for any DOJ statement, it may be more in the nature of a clarification or a “limited hangout” than a comprehensive denial.

In January the NY Times reported “The F.B.I. is leading the investigations, aided by the National Security Agency, the C.I.A. and the Treasury Department’s financial crimes unit. [] One official said intelligence reports based on some of the wiretapped communications had been provided to the White House.”

You know... boy, I hate to say this, but President Trump really needs to come out and explain EXACTLY what’s going on here, because everyone’s anxiety level has risen about three notches because of this.

But he's not going to do that. After the meeting yesterday of key people, it was announced that they were asking congressional committees to also investigate illegal surveillance along with any Russian tampering with the election campaign.

And they said the administration would have no more comments on the issue. They have decided to say nothing more for now, and that is not a great sign, and not necessarily a bad sign, either.

But we know the propaganda media will be going berserk from morning to midnight every day. And we'll see if the Trump administration actually does keep quiet about it while Congress investigates.

I know, they don’t even specify a dept.

anonymous “senior” officials of mysterious nature, and we’re supposed to just TRUST the scumbags of the NY Times on this????

I think not.

There needs to be a serious war against the misuse & abuse of anonymous sourcing in journalism.

It has gone waaaaay too far.

It should be mainly allowed for suggesting (background) directions for further investigation, not as (dubious) substantiation in published articles and TV reports.

Editors ought to say “Screw your anonymous sources, bring me EVIDENCE!”

Levin shows the taps began before the election, so isn’t Comey’s comment pointed at the old Justice Dept officials, specifically L. Lynch?

I’ve literally never heard “senior American officials” cited as a source. Reminds of another NYT classic, “white Hispanic”. But wouldn’t there be literally millions of senior American officials”, i.e. senior officials working for literally anyone in America?

FISA allows the President to order a wiretap without a court order.
