The White House budget director confirmed Saturday that the Trump administration will propose “fairly dramatic reductions” in the U.S. foreign aid budget later this month.

Reuters and other news outlets reported earlier this week that the administration plans to propose to Congress cuts in the budgets for the U.S. State Department and Agency for International Development by about one third.

“We are going to propose to reduce foreign aid and we are going to propose to spend that money here,” White House Office of Management Budget director Mick Mulvaney told Fox News on Saturday, adding the proposed cuts would include “fairly dramatic reductions in foreign aid.”

Mulvaney said the cuts in foreign aid would help the administration fund a proposed $54 billion expansion of the U.S. military budget. …

If we cut aid to those countries, they will hate us. . . . . Uh, I guess it doesn’t matter now that I think about it.

Other than for Israel I don’t see the need. Maybe gifting older warships or aircraft to allies. That’s about it. We are not the global ATM.

A lot of people working in aid in Africa will tell you aid only sustains backwardness and fuels corruption.

They’ll flatly tell you, STOP GIVING.

Got save money where its wasted.

All of the countless things which were once made in the USA, but now are imported. The thousands of companies, which sold out. All the ways that America was being made less strong by distributing American wealth all around the world, are being reversed.

It is about darned time.

What is important, is to bring back production, right to America.

EVERYONE has been selling out America. For a very long time.

Now. Finally. We have a president who is for our very own country, for a change.

It will be a long process, but this is a very good start. Keep it up Trump.

America first.

LONG overdue. We’ve been sending money to countries who spit on us every chance they get.

We need to continue the food aid but take tighter control over the distribution. If Trump proposes safe zones you must support those with food aid. It keeps them in place rather than moving further.

Foreign aid just fuels the bank accounts of tyrants and “democratically elected criminals” around the world.

LONG overdue.

Ditto. I hated being threatened by the IRS to fork over money, that is thrown away overseas to countries that hate us. It's our money, keep it here. And President Trump will help stop it from being wasted here as well.

Only >90% would even qualify. This globalist tool, spending my hard earned pay and debt on bribes. USG, DC, is limited to caring about USAians. Read the USConstitution, do USConstitution, defend USConstitution.

“We are not the global ATM.”

I spent 30 years in the military industrial complex, MIC. The aid is not for foreign powers, per se. It serves several other purposes. It keeps the military industrial complex spun up and producing. Without the fairly constant stream of orders going to Saudi Arabia and Namibia huge quantities of the gear the US buys for itself would be unavailable, the buildings closed the tooling sold. Another issue is supporting a friendly regime so it isn’t replaced by a hostile regime. Then there’s the unemployed MIC workers who don’t have skills easily sold in the civilian world, aircraft power supply designers, for example. The number of individual, hard bought skills is huge and not easily transferred to civilian work.

I am not saying Trump shouldn’t give a hard look at who gets what, but he might want to think through the ramifications of shutting down or drastically reducing aid.

The reductions should go to zero.

Let them pay for their own stuff. Why should we pay for it? Eliminate foreign aid altogether. Period.

The time has come to quit flushing taxpayer money down foreign toilets.
It has accomplished nothing except to create a septic tank full of money that crooked, criminal foreign leaders feed on.
It is not in our best interest to continue this self destructive behavior.
