Fox News Beats CNN, MSNBC Combined In February Ratings (Huuuuuugeely)
The Hill ^

Posted on 03/02/2017 5:47:25 PM PST by Strac6

Fox News topped all other basic cable networks in total viewers for the eighth consecutive month, according to Nielsen Research.

In February, Fox earned the top spot by averaging 1.75 million total viewers throughout the broadcast day, compared to 1.15 million for Nickelodeon and 902,000 for Home and Garden Television (HGTV).

In primetime, Fox averaged 2.9 million viewers, a 31 percent increase from February of 2016.

The 21st Century-owned cable news network was also up 39 percent in the key 25-54 demographic that advertisers covet most, with 592,000 total viewers. In total viewers and the key demographic, Fox beat MSNBC and CNN in both categories combined.

Leading the way as the most-watched show in cable was "The O'Reilly Factor," which airs weeknights at 8 p.m. ET. "Tucker Carlson Tonight" was second in cable news and the fifth highest-rated program overall in cable.

Overall, Fox News had 13 of the top 15 programs in cable news.

MSNBC's "The Rachael Maddow Show" and "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell" were the only non-Fox programs to break the top 15, finishing seventh and 13th, respectively.

February 2017 was the network's 182nd consecutive month as the most-watched cable news channel in total viewers. It was also the network’s highest rated month since November 2016

Some notes:

This is critically important because the only real purpose of a TV Network is to make money for the people who own the network.

TV advertisers do not pay a fixed rate per page like newspapers and magazines. They are paid a certain amount of dollars for each thousand viewers they deliver, and if it's not Fox, it's not delivering.

Because of their low ratings, CNN and MSNBC are leaking money like the Titanic.... 30 minutes AFTER is sunk. For example, MSNBC is paying Brian Williams big bucks, and the overnight taxi dispatcher is East Overshoe, Montana has more listeners than Williams does.

The (Dreaded) Suits will be demanding programming changes soon, and not just trying on a new face. Remember Ronan Farrow. Three up-three down in the bottom of the 9th.

The Suits read balance sheets and tea leaves very well, and these ratings, combined with the polling of President Ttump's speech Tuesday night showing that 75+ % of the country think Trump is heading us in the right direction.... and CNN and MSNBC are tring to drive us down the wrong course.... demand that core foundational-level changes WILL be made.

PS, please, do not waste time crying that FNC is "not Conservative enough." It's what America is watching, and let's celebrate our victories, not be like the Dem-Libs and always find something to complain about.

In a business that celebrates 3% increases, FNC is up 39%!

We are not crybabies. We are winners.

Agree but still believe replacing Shepard Smith in the afternoon would boost ratings.

I noticed something about CNN today...they weren’t going all in on Sessions, challenging every Democrat they had on, why is it different for Sessions than other Democrats that met with the same man? Are you just playing politics?

Strange day!!

Have known Shep for years. He is NOT a great “slow news day” news show “host,” but when there is breaking news, he is the best currently in the business for that breaking news.

You may not like him, but when there is real breaking news, he gets facts, not rumors or speculation on the air fast.

In another (admittedly childish) bad baseball analogy, Shep may not be in your starting pitcher rotation, but when you need a strong reliever to win the game, Shep is the guy.

Not “real” dollars in the form of “payments”, but the federal broadcasting licenses issued to CNN and it’s affiliates by the Feds are worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Fox News is the #1 ranked cable channel, of any channel. Fox News beats ESPN. The liberals are so blinded by their bias. Fox gets all of the right of center and much of center. All of the others are fighting for the remaining left wing audience. And they keep kidding themselves that they ‘aren’t biased’. People vote with their remote controls.

A painful rectal itch would be more popular than MSNBC.

I’m pretty sure Shep is a catcher, not a pitcher.

Somehow they are on every waiting room in the country, otherwise they’d have no viewers at all.

I have my doubts. They’ve been tanking for years and it doesn’t seem to bother the suits.

I do think we’re winning and Trump is the suit that’s going to finish them off in the end.

“Somehow they are on every waiting room in the country, otherwise they’d have no viewers at all.”

I have gotten to the point where I just get up and change the channel to FOX.

No one has ever objected.

“I do think we’re winning and Trump is the suit that’s going to finish them off in the end.”

There are billions of dollars of investment in those networks. They will make changes necessary to become competitively profitable... or lose their Fat Cat jobs and memberships at the Westchester CC.

If Nielsen surveys showed that viewers wanted the news broadcast in the nude by green-painted large-breasted Latvian midgets, that’s what would fill the airtime tomorrow.

That would help Fox bigly. Having Kelly leave appears to have helped the ratings. IMHO that moron Beckel needs to go.

Less critically important if one figures that CNN and especially MSNBC dont need to pay their way to continue existing. They are less commercial enterprises than political assets. They are valuable to their owners even if they lose money.

Backel is good for us. In TV “debate”, you need “the other side” to make it interesting.

Beckel The Hut (Jaba’s brother) is an easy target.
