In an effort to promote affordable living on campus, Associated Students of Madison unanimously voted to approve changes to University Housing and Dining and Culinary Services at a Wednesday meeting.
Jeff Novak, director of University Housing, discussed upcoming changes around campus, including a student-led initiative to make campus dining food-stamp accessible.
SNAP will be the university’s first attempt to bring food stamps into the dining halls and convenience stores. At the moment, Oregon State University is one of only a few universities to institute a program similar to this, but it has only been implemented in grocery stores on campus.
The program will debut fall 2017. Students will be able to apply for the program as it begins.
University Housing is continually working to make UW dorms more affordable, Novak said. Housing rates currently range from $7,574 to $9,539.

Considering the rate at which UW has raised out of state tuition, it’s not surprising some students might need food stamps.
What could possibly go wrong?
But what do you want to bet that the same student snowflakes, who will stay on their parents’ health insurance until age 26, will be filing documents that they are self-supporting/no income, just to get the food stamps?
Then in 5 years, we will hear how these same moochers cannot repay their student loans, and will be demanding that “the government” forgive their loans.
If this is the attitude of students today, everything gotta be free, why are they going to college? They aren’t preparing themselves for work or even for leaving their family’s basement. They must think college is sort of an elementary field trip day out to a nature preserve or zoo.
Here, USF has a Publix, Winn Dixie, Wal-Mart, Target, CVS, Walgreens, Wawa and other places to use food stamps near the campus. The Bull Runner (USF bus line) will take you around and if you want to go to Trader Joe’s, Bravo or Fresh Market, you can take HART (Hillsborough Area Regional Transit) for free with your USF ID card. It will be fraudulently run at UW campus..
