In his first presidential inaugural address, Obama referenced himself 84 times, (that number is an approximation). By contrast, Trump made only 53 such references in his address to congress Tuesday night.

Trump has been accused by the MSM, the democrats, the liberals and anyone else who cares to chime in that he's mentally ill and first and foremost a narcissist. Fact is he mentioned himself 60% less than Obama did in his 1st inaugural. Obama referred to "I" or "me" 84 times while Trump referred to himself only 53 times.
If that's not bad enough to point out the narcissism in our former president, in 2010 Obama referred to himself 117 times.

Journalists and math. They're like Hippies and baths. They just don't go together. 53 is 63% of 84, not 63% less than 84. That would be 37% less.

Sorry to be picky, but this is bad math. 53 is approx. 63% of 84. That would mean that Trump would have referenced himself 37% less.
To: Right Brother
You’re not picky, but I still think it’s significant esp when you look at the 2010 inaugural.

Actually, that should be 60% as much! or 40% less.
Though by the numbers it should be 37% less.

Of course. And he didn’t thumb his nose at anyone like Obama did.

You are exactly right and that’s how I took it. He mentioned himself 1/3 less of the time than our former guy.
The point being, this is probably more than Trump usually does, but last night was his night, and it was all about him being our president.
When you listened to Fox forum you could almost taste the respect, admiration, and even a little tears in the voices of Chris Wallace and Bret Hume. It was universal except for Juan Williams.

Trump's inaugural address was also only 1,433 words long. Obama's 1st was 2,395, and his 2nd was 2,096 words long.
So in relation to the total length, Trump actually referenced himself more often.

I was just dealing with the faulty math in the OP.
But based on your point we should still expect him to make personal references 50 times. So how significant would 3 more, an additional 6%, be?

What struck me about the tone of Trump's references to himself was that he was holding himself responsible and accountable, and intending that the work of he and his administration be held accountable.
As opposed to Obama who shirked his duties while magnifying himself at every turn.
Good Lord... did last night's speech REALLY happen? After almost a full lifetime of hearing empty blather, shallow promises and self-serving platitudes, it's like what we heard last night is almost impossible to believe.

Bigger Q: How many times did each acknowledge ‘(We) the People’...the TRUE ‘keepers of the power’?
The narcissist Zero was probably closer to that: ZERO.
