COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. The investigation continues into a shooting in Grovetown that left a 17-year-old dead after he reportedly entered a girl's home to visit her and was shot by her father.
According to the incident report, deputies responded to the Coventry Avenue home on February 25 in reference to a shooting and possible burglary.
When deputies arrived around 2:55 a.m., they observed 49-year-old Dereck Fulton attempting to perform CPR on 17-year-old Jordan Middleton.
When deputies removed everyone from the house, they found an apparent gunshot wound in the upper left torso on Middleton. The firearm used to shoot Middleton was on the kitchen counter, which investigators said Fulton had already unloaded.
Fulton told investigators that his dog began barking, so he grabbed his gun and yelled for anyone in the house to come out. Fulton said when he checked the closet in the guest bedroom, a black male ran out towards him.
According to the incident report, Fulton then fired one round to defend himself and the man ran and fell in the dining room. Fulton later learned the man was his daughter's friend, Middleton.
The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed in the case at this time.

They point out the dead kid is black. Are they going to go racial on this?
I’m guessing he was trying to reproduce.
He chose poorly.
The young man obviously knew what he was doing was wrong or he would have called out and surrendered himself. His running was an admission of guilt, very stupid, and gave the father little choice and a split second on what to do to protect his family.
Sometimes stupid is deadly.

Bad move entering someone’s home at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning.
I saw that for the first time recently...that was hilarious.
This isn’t funny, it is tragic, but I am sure someone is going to make a racial incident out of this when what it is is a person rightfully defending themselves in their home.
That teenager should not have been where he was, and he paid with his life.
Somebody I didn’t invite in walking around my house at 2:30 in the morning, told to come out and he rushes me is probably going to wind up the same way young Jordan did.
The girl is a ho and you don’t know this was the first time the guy came over.
Plus he was sneaking in to visit a 14 year old...we all know what was going to take place
She is all of 14. We know what he had in mind
Look, this is black and white. Which is to say that the Father should be able to shoot the guy whether he is black or white.
The 14 year old girl should understand now that a father is the natural enemy of the 17 year old boy friend. This situation is as old as fathers, daughters and 17 year old boys. Nothing new here.
If the father is white, they most assuredly will.
Why didn’t daughter tell dad who it really was? She shares a lot of blame here.
