Attorney General Jeff Sessions made a decision to overturn a memo to end the use of private prisons, the Huffington Post reports.
About ten years ago, when the prison population was exploding, the Federal Bureau of Prisons sought out private companies to build and operate prisons. In 2013, the prison population reached its highest ever at 220,000 inmates. But, by 2016, the population began to decline for the first time in over thirty years accounting for only 195,000 inmates. This had to do with changes in how inmates are sentenced. As a result, the need for private prisons was reconsidered.

Winning, winning, winning. I am so TIRED of winning. NOT.
I don’t like the idea of private prisons on principle. I think prison profiteering is unhealthy. Use of private contractors within the system is ok, though.
But, it’s a heck of a lot better than either overcrowding or just turning ‘em loose because the jails have run out of space, and that’s the biggest problem now.
Sub-contract to Turkey. They have real nice prisons.
Make them wear pink and eat cr@p for less than $.25/day.
I would add to it weapons such that they could fight each other and ban all medical attention.
I hope cooler heads quietly prevail on Mr. Sessions quietly dropping his “marijuana crackdown” idea.
Nixon’s “War on Drugs”, mostly against marijuana, cost the US perhaps a trillion or more dollars in one of the most inane and downright stupid campaigns ever created. A declaration of war against the Moon.
Its biggest success was in stripping Americans of a huge number of constitutional and legal rights, and caused a repulsive growth in both the “industrial prison system” and the abhorrent property seizure practices (something else that Sessions favors) that still confiscate hundreds of billions of dollars of property every year with no, *zero* criminal complaint. A corrupting influence on police at all levels.
This confiscation amounts to “Hagar the Horrible”-style taxation, of a tax collector showing up at the door with a brute with an axe.
A thousand times worse for our nation than alcohol prohibition, which created the organized crime syndicates that still exist.
Just kill the monster. Focus exclusively on the “hard drugs” like opiates, amphetamines, cocaine and synthetics.
Hard drug use almost always starts with marijuana use. If you don’t want to get busted for a drug crime, then don’t use drugs.
What about all those neat FEMA comps the Obammunists were preparing for our “reeducation”?
Build tent city prisons if need be.
I have heard personally from Sheriff Joe Arpaio's own testimony, as he was part of Nixon's force to prevent drugs coming into the U.S.
I also do not accept the 'pot is harmless" theories spouted by both Libertarians and pot smokers.
We, here in Kansas, are experiencing many problems from our Colo. neighbors to our West.
Pot smokers are not unimpaired drivers and though they believe they are driving in control, they are not and we have videos to prove our point and that's just one of the problems.
If we accept, as we have, that we all should pay for the massive medical problems with tobacco smokers, just wait until the pot smokers have inhaled that carcinogen for a few years, not to mention the "second hand smoke," asthma, lung and allergy expenses.
Hillary lost the election, fortunately. Otherwise re-education of the deplorables would already be underway...
So, in Obama’s last year, crime was not going down .. THE CRIMINALS WERE NOT BEING KEPT IN JAIL FOR THEIR FULL TIME.
GREAT! That’s how you change stats .. you just let the criminals go early .. and you can SAY there is less crime.
How nice!
Just contacted my local ICE office and gave them a heads-up about the target rich environment near where I live.
The authoritarians on the right haven’t quite figured out, you are not going to drain the swamp and wage their failing war on some drugs and some drug users at the same time. Draining the swamp directly implies a vast reduction in the fed.gov. That includes their favorite flavor of boot polish. Drug interdiction at our borders (THE WALL) will curtail the hard stuff and the mex dirt weed. The domestic genie (home grown)is out of the lamp and he will not be put back into it! I suggest to them, go sip on a single malt and relish their losses.
Wrong drug use almost always starts with alcohol. Do want alcohol made illegal?
I don’t debate drug users. I have had a thousand debates with stoners over the years and it is simply a waste of time.
Or Mexico, where a mattress is an optional extra. That being said, mebbe Turkey charges you extra for a slop bucket in your cell.
“Hard drug use almost always starts with marijuana use.”
The vast majority of the exploding number of heroin addicts became so because of *prescription* opiates. Also, as a class, they are no longer exclusively poor, but middle, upper middle, and wealthy classes are just as prone to become junkies.
This is not helped by black market prescription drugs running around $100 a pill, while heroin prices have dropped to about $5 for a greater amount of opiate.
And with the introduction of Fentanyl and its analogs, most of which are far more potent than heroin, and far cheaper to make and smuggle, the end result is going to be a lot of dead junkies.
Bottom line: spending $100 billion a year to stop marijuana is even dumber than alcohol prohibition. We need that money for many more things than to waste it on dope.
