NASA generally proceeds slowly and incrementally – especially when human beings are blasted into space. But President Donald Trump and his advisers want to do something bold with the space program, and they’ve asked NASA to consider speeding up a long-planned moon mission. So NASA has launched a feasibility study to see what the risks and benefits would be if the agency added two astronauts to the first test flight of a new rocket and capsule.
That flight, Exploration Mission 1, or EM-1, is scheduled for November 2018. The new Space Launch System rocket would blast off with a new Orion capsule on top. The Orion would orbit the moon, undergoing a kind of stress test, and then return to Earth, re-entering the atmosphere at tremendous speed and splashing down in an ocean.

Call it APOLLO II -— it is soooo long overdue. The costs could be EASILY covered by getting a bunch of illegals off the American taxpayer’s backs.

NASA didn’t move slowly and incrementally between September 12, 1962 and July 20, 1969. It was balls to the wall, pardon the language.
No no no no.. not the FIRST of anything.
The origin of that term is in aeronautics. It means to push the throttles, with a ball on top, forward to the firewall, to go as fast as possible. i.e. Balls to the wall.
Finally a man with a vision, and another reason to have great hope that America will continue to be great well into the future.
Hope we don’t have to fight the Chinese up on the moon.

he TR-3B is Code named Astra. The tactical reconnaissance TR-3B first operational flight was in the early 90s. The triangular shaped nuclear powered aerospace platform was developed under the Top Secret, Aurora Program with SDI and black budget monies. At least 3 of the billion dollar plus TR-3Bs were flying by 1994. The Aurora is the most classified aerospace development program in existence. The TR-3B is the most exotic vehicle created by the Aurora Program. It is funded and operationally tasked by the National Reconnaissance Office, the NSA, and the CIA. The TR-3B flying triangle is not fiction and was built with technology available in the mid 80s. Not every UFO spotted is one of theirs.
I was thinking more along the lines of “Apollo:The Next Generation”
It is not good to rush a technology for political prestige. Make the first shot a robot. Make the second one “man-qualified.” No one wants to turn down POTUS, but do it in a programmed way. NASA used to be pretty good at this, but they’ve been through some “Fundamental Transformation” and it would be best to let the atmosphere get sane and well-managed and recover from the idiotic distortions of the last eight years. “Go Fever” kills good people.
One of our kids has been a Systems Engineer at NASA for 9 or 10 years, working on the Orion capsule. They are not exactly rushing anything.
Orion is basically Apollo Deluxe, with technology 50 years newer.
